The oldest university in the world isn’t Oxford or the Sorbonne—it’s the University of Al-Karaouine, and you’ll find it in Fes el Bali. This walled city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, will transport you back to medieval times. Visit the ancient maze-like quarters of the Medina to Fes el-Bali and the four imposing Gates of Fes, with their distinctive Moroccan tile work. You can walk, or, if you're brave, take a taxi—the daredevil drivers will have you hanging on for dear life.

I’ve been here many times to take a break from city life and each time I love it more and more and want to stay longer. This time we went with friends and their children. The kids can swim and explore the amazing property. Parents can relax and enjoy the view, property and the food and service is amazing. Everyone I recommend this to has the same great experience and wants to return. There are 4 new private rooms added to the property that are just beautiful!

You'll be charmed by this riad in the Arab-Andalusian architecture. the limited capacity of 5 suites and 3 rooms, allows you to customize the contacts and to take the time to settle down in an harmonious décor. the patio filled with green plants offer more intimate corners for reading. A library is available and full of books on the history and cultures of Morocco and the art of oriental cooking but also something to prepare for documenting his visits to the medina and its surroundings.
We recommend staying at this Riad when you visit Fez. It is conveniently located a short walk from a street where your taxi can easily get you there, and it's a short walk to a main gate to the Medina. It's BEAUTIFUL! The photos do not even do it justice. We also had dinners at the Riad - the best food we had in Morocco. You can also buy beer and wine, so that's big plus. I contacted Riad al Bartal before we arrived, and they set up some affordable tours, transfers, Covid tests for us. Thanks to Ray and Omar for making it easy! I miss the delicious tagines and that amazing peach dessert. Our room was spacious and I felt like I lived in a palace!

The stay at Mazar completely elevated our experience at fes. Pictures don’t do it justice! It feels like home here. Siham and team work like a family and they love what they do. They don’t work off commission and just want us to have the best experience in fes. Lots of great recommendation for food, guides, shopping and anything you need! We went to many top rated local restaurants but to our surprise, the meal at riad Mazar is by farrrr the best in taste, variety and authenticity. They don’t run a restaurant and only cook for guests upon request. A must have experience if you do decide to stay here!

The Grand Alcazar is a guest house, set in a beautiful Riad located in the Batha district in the heart of Fes, less than 1.5 km from the Royal Palace. Only 100 m from the public car park, the Riad is very easily accessible by car, on foot or by public transport, and can accommodate people with reduced mobility. Built several centuries ago, and renovated in 1944 and in 2018, the Riad was previously owned by an important family of the Fassi nobility who made it an architectural jewel, very rich in ornaments and traditional decorations Fassi (Zellige, carved plaster, Wood carved and painted by hand, etc.). The house has been fully restored to the traditional architectural art of Fez by local artisans, retaining all its authenticity while providing the technology and equipment necessary to make your stay the most memorable, comfortable and exceptional possible . The Riad has 5 large suites and 2 small double rooms, all non-smoking. The suites can accommodate up to 4 people. All suites have a sitting area, dressing room, high quality bedding, and offer exceptional comfort. We have also built a beautiful rooftop terrace of the Riad, with a very beautiful height, to offer you a breathtaking 360-degree views of the entire Medina of Fez. Only 5 minutes from Bab Boujloud (Blue Gate), the Grand Alcazar enjoys a prime location, ideal to undertake a beautiful visit of the medina. The property is 200 meters from Bouanania Madrasa and 200 meters from Batha Square. The new city is a 5-minute drive away, and the nearest airport is Fes-Saïss, 15 km away.

Ideally located in the Fes El Bali district of Fez, Riad authentic palace Suite & Spa is located 2.3 km from Royal Palace Fes, a 3-minute walk from Batha Square and 641 m from Medersa Bouanania. Among the facilities of this property are a restaurant, a 24-hour front desk and room service, along with free WiFi. The property has entertainment staff and a shared lounge
Fes is a big city and big winding medina and so it was good that our driver contacted the Riad to find out exactly where it was and he arranged for someone to meet us. Our original room was a standard double but the Riad was not full so they upgraded us to a room on the ground floor just off the central courtyard. The room was gorgeous and very unique but it was bit loud in the evening because we were next to the courtyard. However the staff offered to change our room if we decided it was too loud. The staff in the Riad was outstanding and they arranged for staff to take us to restaurants because it is easy to get lost in the medina. They also arranged a guide to tour the medina. Great experience and I'd highly recommend this Riad to anyone visiting Fes.

I have been to different riads, but this one is the best. Fresh breakfast (would be like a brunch), very calm, and well decorated in a traditional way. Very clean, great air conditioning, free wifi, nice bedsheets. The food is excellent, the best couscous I have ever had for a long time. I still thank my wife for the choice of this Riad. The host is very welcoming. As for the service, it is excellent. I will come back willingly.

This was definitely our best stay in Morocco. We loved everything here: the spacious room, the comfortable bed, nice shower, good airco, the extensive breakfast. But most of all we loved the staff: Youssef and Redouane really went out of their way to make us feel at home, and they advised and helped us with anything we needed or wanted. And we saw they did the same for every guest. We felt really at home, and their genuine hospitality made our 3-night stay feel like a family visit. The location is also ideal: easy to reach by car, and you walk straight into the medina. We could park our car right at the door. Would we go back here? Yes!! We would go back to Fès just to stay here.

Beautifully restored Riad guesthouse in the ancient medina with a 360 degree panoramic view from the furnished roof terrace, where drinks and breakfast are served. All rooms (4 suites and 1 double room) are decorated with traditional arts and crafts, intricate carved plaster, high cedar ceilings, mosaic tile floors, and hand-crafted furniture. At the heart of the Riad is an ornately tiled courtyard with a sunken fountain where our restaurant is located. The cuisine is French/Mediterranean with a Moroccan twist and dining with us is a highlight for our guests. Other amenities include an intimate salon with fireplace, large library, DVD/TV salon, roof-top BBQ, and free WiFi access. The managers provide a full concierge service to help our guests with any arrangements they might need and allow them to experience the best of the Fes Medina and surrounding areas.
Our first visit to Fes and we have to say that the staff of Dar Roumana could not do enough for us. Taxi to meet us at the train station, porter to walk us to the hotel (a young student studying English) followed by the traditional Moroccan greeting with tea and cakes. Top tip use this service as Fes is pretty daunting on first visit! Nezha was on the front desk and she was most welcoming and attentive. Can’t praise her level of customer service enough. The same goes for all the staff who really looked after us in a relaxed and friendly manner. We stayed in the Jannah suite which was superb. Top tip, this room has steep steps to the bathroom suite and would not suit people with mobility issues. The roof terrace offers one of the best views in Fes. To the rear on the hilltop are the Merinid tombs, a 20 minute walk if you want a superb sunset/sunrise experience. To the front the medina sprawls before you with the ancient Karaouiyne university and mosque taking centre stage. The hotel is 5 minutes walk from the main thoroughfare and about 15 from the blue gate. The attraction of Roumana is the tranquil setting within easy access of all the attractions. Top tip, use the porter service for getting to restaurants at a specific time as getting lost is very easy and could add unnecessary stress! However by day two we felt a lot more confident getting around. Can’t recommend the whole experience enough. Afternoon tea Moroccan style on the terrace was a lovely pause in the day.
