Thetford is a market town and civil parish in the Breckland district of Norfolk, England. It is on the A11 road between Norwich and London, just south of Thetford Forest. After World War II Thetford became an ‘overspill town’ taking people from London, as a result of which its population increased substantially. The civil parish, covering an area of 29.55 km (11.41 sq mi), has a population of 24,340.

After visiting the Bell Hotel earlier in the week, we decided to take friends for dinner. We made our booking and received our confirmation. On arrival, we were informed that they were not serving food and did not have our booking. After showing them the confirmation they insisted we could not eat there and sent us to The Thomas Paine Hotel, which was stunning.On arrival at The Thomas Paine Hotel, we came across a party of 12 who had also booked a table two weeks in advance and were told they couldn't eat there either.Stay away, it's not worth the hassle!Dear Lisa B,Thank you for your review. I am sorry your table reservation was missed. I am the new Assistant Manager and I will be placing steps to ensure this does not happen again. Me and My duty manager were on shift the night of the BBQ and Band Weekend and no other bookings came into the hotel after we found you a table at the Thomas Paine Hotel. We attended a family wedding here at the weekend. the food was superb!, the staff so helpful, every stop was pulled out to ensure everyone, children to grannies, had a great time and even the fussiest of eaters commented on the high quality of the food. The bar was very well stocked they even had my favorite... Rhubarb and ginger gin. very happy. Will visit again.

We stayed at the Crown during early Julyl and were delighted with everything, particularly the food.My husband left his 'kindle' behind so we went back today and, again, the food was first class. Nothing is too much trouble for the Crown and we shall go again very soon.

Threatened by a member of staff forKnowing someone she didnât like , unprofessional and a massive bad attitude problem. Was made to feel uncomfortable couldnât finish food no compensation after telling management about our awful experience, wonât return personally.In my opinion not a friendly environment.Food wasnât great , every meat on the carvry was touched with pork which I donât eat . Called into the Chase for a bite to eat as we were staying at the Travelodge around the corner.Food was good and very reasonably priced I had the scampi. Also moved to the sports bar to watch the rugby and a few drinks again reasonably priced.Friendly staff and a good nightHi Barneyr21, great to hear you enjoyed your visit to our pub. Have been meaning to try the Wellington for some time,so two of us had lunch yesterday.We were the only ones eating and were very well looked after by a very nice and efficient young lady.The menu is very extensive and has some different items that you would not normally find in similar establisments.We both chose the fish and chips which was excellent in all respects.The batter was really first class very light and tasty,and the fish was firm and flaky.We had no room for a desert,but will try and leave enough room the next time we visit.
