Buxton is a spa town in Derbyshire, in the East Midlands region of England. It has the highest elevation – about 1,000 feet (300 m) above sea level – of any market town in England. Close to the county boundary with Cheshire to the west and Staffordshire to the south, Buxton is described as "the gateway to the Peak District National Park". A municipal borough until 1974, Buxton was then merged with other localities lying primarily to the north, including Glossop, to form the local government district and borough of High Peak within the county of Derbyshire. Despite being in the East Midlands, economically Buxton is within the sphere of influence of Greater Manchester. The population of the town was 22,115 at the 2011 Census.

After my last visit in December 2018 I returned early February for a mid morning fry up. I'm glad to say the management have taken on board my minor quibbles and the breakfast and free coffee was superb quality and cooked to perfection, served piping hot all at the same time. Great decor and loads of quality seats to relax for a coffee. Staff first class and brilliant location. Would definitely recommend. Excellent value cooked breakfast. I have also popped in with my wife again and had a wonderful lunch in the past. This is a nice place to dine or take coffee. The other customers all seemed very pleasant and friendly with a very local happy go lucky attitude. Good atmosphere.

Recently refurbished Local pub serving food from 12-9pm every day. Relax in the lounge area by the open fire place or dine in the candlelit dining room. This historic building is both dog and walker friendly, and encourages anyone visiting the area to sam
Popped in here for a drink and bite to eat before an event at Buxton Opera House. Firstly, it couldnât be better placed as the Opera House is directly opposite. Food was really nice with very prompt service. Pub is very warm and friendly and what makes it even more so are the exceptionally friendly polite and efficient staff. Made it a real pleasure to spend some time here. Highly recommended. Thanks for the review. We really appreciate you considering us for a pre stop before the theatre. We hope to see you again at a future event.

What more can you ask for on a cold, windy, rainy day? Hot Beef Stew with barley, served with crusty bread - Exquisite I had it with bread but saw a chap order a side of mash with his. The menu at this place is awesome - good old fashioned Home Cooking. First Visit but wonât be my last. Strongly recommend this place. Coffee was good too. Service very quick and the Staff are so friendly. Hi Carly,Sorry for a late response to your kind words. I am afraid i missed it and it has been sitting in my in tray. I am so glad you enjoyed your meal at The Jug and Glass Inn.I have to say my wife cooks a pretty good meal and who the hell would want to divorce a wife like that. In all seriousness its one of my favourites also. Please pop in again and see us if your passing. All the best for 2018.Best wishes,Stuart, Gwen and all the staff.

Came across this lovely village and pub by accident! Very warm welcome by the owner and food excellent! The pastry on the leek and lamb pie was the best Iâve ever tasted and the mixed grill was huge, with everything on there! Great place to eat and would definitely return!

Tuesday night is music night in the Swan. If you enjoy hearing good musicians jamming together it is a brilliant night. Even get tasty butties thrown in! Very friendly. This is an old fashioned public house and not a restaurant.

Decided to visit this pub despite reading the last review on it, and could not have wished for anything better a real little gem of a place. We went for dinner with friends on a Wednesday evening, it was a friendly and welcoming family run pub, with its own campsite adjacent to it.I have to say the variety of food on the menu was very extensive, if you cannot find anything here to tickle your fancy, then I would not know where to suggest you go.We did not have any starters so cannot comment on them, but after the main meals were served and looked at the size of them it was probably just as well we didn't.My friend and I both went for the Chicken Breast with bacon, served in a stilton sauce, fresh vegetables and new potatoes. I have to say that this was one of the best tasting, filling and fantastic value for money meals I have had for a very long time. My wife had the Lamb and Mint pie, also served with Veg and chips, and my friends wife had the Tuna pasta bake, served with fresh salad and new potatoes, both agreed very tasty food.Although we did feel quite full we had to find room for a bit of pudding, 2 steamed Plum puddings later served with custard, we had to concede defeat. Drinks were very good, nice selection of real ales, and a bottle of wine for under £13, cannot be bad.Well done the Thomas family for a very warm welcome, cosy surroundings, and a great tasting meal. Will definitely be coming back, and would recommend, but make sure you are hungry.Baz

Visited one evening for dinner last week whilst staying on a local caravan site nearby. Our experience was not the same as the great reviews we had read about this âaward winningâ pub.The staff and food were very disappointing. The lamb steak was over cooked, the homemade beef lasagne had scarcely any beef in it. Which the waitress argued that the chef said there was plenty in it, rather than listening to a customer and apologising that my daughter had nothing to eat and had to satisfy herself on the garlic bread and bits from her mothers and my own meal. That was the most disappointing thing and showed a real lack of class and care from someone in a customer care related profession.I appreciate it was refunded on the bill but thatâs not the point and not what we went for. We wanted a good dinner.
