Booked a family meal for a Saturday night using the Kathmandu website and received a prompt email response confirming booking. This was the second time we've been to Kathmandu and have always enjoyed the food.Turned up and were shown to a nice table, well laid out and well presented. The restaurant is nicely appointed and warm. The restaurant Kathmandu replaced often felt very stark and cold.Starters were lovely. A combination of poppadoms, chutneys, onion bhajis and woccha, which we shared amongst 5 of us. Main courses were amazing and very different to each other. Certainly with 4 curries, 2 rice, 2 nan breads and a chickpea salad there was plenty of food to go around. The chickpea salad in particular was very tasty and provided a nice alternative to the curries. My personal favourite is the lamb gurkha curry, but all the curries were amazing and very flavoursome. The only point to note, is that whilst the service is good, there's room for improvement. We ordered drinks, starters and mains all together, but had to ask again for our drinks, which appeared to have been forgotten. Equally, items such as table were water and an extra chutney tray were forgotten and had to re-asked for. Individually these are minor points, but collectively it begins to get quite frustrating.Personally, I think the restaurant would benefit from someone more experienced front of house to help tie it all together. I'd also suggest that the restaurant allows the waiters/waitresses to sample the dishes, so they can better understand the characteristics of the individual curries.Dear 48kierans,Thank you very much for visiting our restaurant and thanks for sharing your dining experience. Mrs K does an amazing Sunday lunch & we are always looking for somewhere that does a better one than she prepares! I think we have found the place! There were 9 of us in our group varying from 26 years old up to 78 years young! We went straight in with an order of Sunday roast with Lamb for 2, Sunday roast with rare beef for 2, Sunday Roast with Chicken for 1, Sunday Roast with Fake & Hale Pie for 2 & Chickpea Ragu & Pollenta for Mrs K & she loved itThe two having Lamb said it was Fantastic with the Lamb being really succulent & not fatty, the Chicken Roast was accepted equally well as were the rare roast beef. One of the Fake & Hale Pie was for a Meat eater but her comment was "this could turn a meat eater!" & I was the other & I loved it. The Pie contents were Carrot, Lentil, Celery & Onion Pie accompanied by turmeric mash with buttered Kale & veggie gravy & it was stunning! All of the roasts were accompanied by Roast potatoes, a collection of veggies & gravy & we all agreed it was the best Sunday Roast we have had!We skipped starters so we all had a little room for sweets & the selection was Cheeseboards, Passion fruit Creme Brulee & Chocolate Brownies. They were all fab & we managed to devour all of it.The food in itself was excellent but made even better by the amazing service from Lindsey, Simon & Jack who made sure we were looked after throughout & we didn't have to move to get up for a drink because they were so attentive. If you are wondering where to go for Sunday lunch then look no further but I would definitely advise booking in advanceHi Stuart,Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a fantastic review of Riva. Itâs great to hear that you all enjoyed your experience with us and that the food was good enough to rival Mrs K! I will pass on your kind words to Lindsey, Simon and Jack. Looking forward to seeing you again soon : )Kind RegardsLaura
