The Westgate pub and rooms has just undergone an extensive redevelopment and features ten spectacular rooms in both 'snug' and 'comfortable' room options. With fantastic views of The Westgate itself and some of the rooms featuring views across the Winches
Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Our room was room 4 (on second floor). Positives were the large king size comfy bed; the tea & coffee making facilities; cleanliness; cupboard space. Negatives were the leaking shower head which meant that the flow out was much reduced; there was nowhere to hang drying towels in the bathroom (a hook & a towel rail used to be in there but had been removed and presumably are waiting repair; shelf over sink is also awaiting repair; there was some noise from the kitchen's extractor fan (from 07.00 until they closed down at night). As I said, positives outweighed the negatives.Hello David, Thank you very much for your review. We are very happy you enjoyed your stay at the Westgate. We are currently waiting for our maintenance team to come in and fix your raised concerns so they should be corrected shortly. We hope that you will stop by again!Kind Regards, The Westgate Team

Alfie's is the brightest and best pub in the heart of Winchester. Come and enjoy our Craft Beer, Pool Table, Legendary Smurf Cocktails and Live Sport on our four TV screens or our outside TV in the Fire Room! See you all very soon!
Went here during a night out in Winchester for a friends leaving drinks. Bar staff friendly and nice enough place to play pool or have quiet drinks. However, the door staff have disgusting attitudes. I donât remember the last time I have seen door staff behave like this. Alfieâs definitely need to rethink their style as the staff clearly look for trouble and try to intimidate. Because of this I wonât be visiting again.

My children have special needs and is not always easy to find a place that is not only family friendly but friendly in every other aspect too. We normally stick to our regular due to our children. Today I thought Iâd venture out with family to another pub to get a bit to eat. When we walked in I was a bit disappointed that they didnât do any other replacements to Ribena which was out of stock or any kind of straws. Being paper plastic whatever. But I managed to get away around that.. after explaining my sons needs they very calmly helped me out.I sat down to start munching some starters with family and her childrenâs and my children. A lovely you girl Gemma I believe. Came over and asked me if there was anything she could do or to make his experience more welcoming and such like. As soo as she walked away I burst into tears. Explaining to family that itâs not often we find somewhere that just welcomes the sort of child he is. I couldnât be more appreciative towards the staff that worked the shifts between 2-5 today. Extremely fantastic and constantly asking if he- my son needed anything. Certainly be going back for this experience again. Again thank you so much to these staff members especially Gemma. Again thank you. One extremely happy customer.Hello Voyager - thank you for taking the time to leave us such a great review, it really does show us how brilliant our staff is and we couldnât be prouder! The staff member who dealt with you was called âGeorgiaâ I will be sure to pass on your kind words to her and the rest of our team! Apologizes about the straws and Ribena we are usually fully stocked, and hopefully, this wonât happen again, glad we could find some way around it so glad you and all of your family had a great time! Next time you pop in for a visit, donât be shy to come say hello - we would all love to meet your son and make him feel welcome! Thanks a million again, from all the team at Oneills Winchester âï¸

Steeped in charm and nominated Hampshire dining pub of the year, The Wykeham Arms is moments from the glorious Winchester Cathedral. A modern British menu filled with locally sourced ingredients, is complemented by an extensive wine list and choice of 5 a
We went to the Wykeham Arms on Saturday lunchtime. I hadn't been for many years, butp remembered it fondly and it always had good food, but not anymore. The staff are delightful and very helpful let down by dreadful and overpriced food. I ordered the Wykeham club sandwich at £10.50. Having had a number of club sandwiches over the years I was expecting something special.....How wrong I can be! The 2 small bowls of chips arrived, they were sent back as they were marginally tepid. They arrived back a few minutes later, piping hot but soggy after I assume being re heated in the microwave! My sandwich duly arrived on a wooden board. There was no side salad or garnish. The club sandwich had a few torn of bits of lettuce and something that resembled baby sick which was the chicken bacon and avocado mulched up to a pulp!!! If I knew what it was I wouldn't have ordered it. A club sandwich is layered with these ingredients, not mashed up. The bread was like a cheap supermarket brand. The staff refunded my money with no quibbles, so 5 stars for that. AVOID if you don't want to be ripped off!!Dear STumax1961I'm sorry the club sandwich didn't live up to expectations. We do sell up to 100 of those per week and this is the first complaint I have had, but I will certainly review the make up of the sandwich with the chef. I cant excuse soggy chips, but I can promise you they weren't microwaved as we don't have a microwave in our kitchen. It is not our intention to rip anyone off either I can promise you that. And I don't think you should write us off over a sandwich. Please give us another try. Im encouraged that the service was on point.Best regardsJon Howard

This Grade II listed 18th-century inn is the perfect place to meet for lunch, supper or just a drink in relaxed, convivial surroundings - moments away from Winchester Cathedral, and conveniently located in Winchester's vibrant city centre, with its first-
Dined here in the private room with a group of friends. First the positives. Both the private and public facilities were charming. The young staff were friendly and efficient. The house wine from good producers was fine. But here the positives end. The food which we had preordered was very poor. The âwild mushroomsâ had been shredded beyond recognition, my veal escalope was very tough and I had enough beans to feed a family of four. It was all lukewarm at best. My wife had terrine which she described as dense and tasteless. It was accompanied by enough bread to feed the table. Her main course of sea bass was better but again accompanied by too many vegetables. My neighbour had cod goujons which looked like enormous fish fingers rather than the individual bite size portions one would expect. I could go on. A lot of the food went back to the kitchen. This place, a nice pub, in a nice town with good young staff needs to sort out the kitchen. Less quantity and more quality please. Thanks for your feedback, I'm pleased there were aspects of your visit you enjoyed. However it seems our style of food - straightforward pub food - doesn't meet with your approval. I'm sorry to hear that. It's a difficult balance to strike - take the bread with the terrine, for example. When we serve the terrine we are often asked by customers for more bread, yet you found there to be too much. You found the cod goujons to be too big - and yet other customers have asked for this specific product to be reinstated when it was removed from the menu back in the summer. I appreciate you have a personal way that you like things to be done, but we have to provide a balanced menu that suits the majority of our customers. That way, we please most of the people, most of the time. I am truly sorry you didn't enjoy your visit, and I will of course pass on your feedback to the kitchen.

Booked in for Sunday lunch for group of 14, after a trip to The Bombay Sapphire Distillery Tour. Was seated in an upstairs room, which accommodated us very well! Had pre ordered as big group so just drinks order needed. Very nice server looked after us (did not get his name, but very tall had to dodge lights strung on ceiling) accommodating our sense of humour when one of the groups beer was a little delayed! Excellent food was received by everyone in the party no one had any complaints, Would definitely visit here again if in the area. Thanks so much! We're all very happy you had a great lunch with us.We look forwards to welcoming you again soonTake careDanni
