Up from London for a special meal with my daughter and her boyfriend (plus his parents) to celebrate their return from Berlin. We had a table by the window (as I had requested) with wonderful views of the city and were blessed with excellent weather on the Saturday lunchtime. We had a warm welcome and service was unobtrusive and efficient. We all opted for the two course meal at £18 which was excellent value given high quality of the food. Choices were good, catering for both meat eaters and vegetarians. The puds were the star turn for me - sticky toffee pudding and dark chocolate mousse with raspberries, beautifully presented. Bit of an agony deciding. Six easily holds its own against restaurants I occasionally visit in London under Open Table offers (these dearer of course). The ladies' loo was a real surprise -a loo with a view. A great finale to our meal. I would come up for the Christmas lunch if it wasn't so far to come.....Six and the Baltic do Newcastle proud.

We came here hoping to get an exceptional meal. Though the restaurant looks good, the food was just mediocre. It was nearly empty on a Tuesday after 6pm. We are quickly seated. I ordered the mango shake. This was ok.For a starter, I had the Halloumi sticks. These were nice. The dip was lovely too. My companion had the calamari which he also enjoyed. It was the main meal that was a bit if an anti climax. My colleague had the highly 'recomended' chicken in a basket. Well, this was just similar to ordinany chicken nuggets. The chicken was dry and bland. I had the crispy pork belly. Now I like my pork belly with fat in it because this is what makes it crispy and juicy. This pork belly had been stripped of fat leaving it with just dry fatless meat. Presentation was fab, however, if I had not ordered the fries, I would have been starving as there wasn't much. The fries were just like McDonald's fries. We did not order deserts as we were not sure after the underwhelming experience of the main meal.It is a shame because I had been looking forward to coming here. I do think their dishes need to be improved otherwise they will just disappear into the mould of 'just another' restaurant.Hi Stha77,Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Could I ask you to drop me an email at [email protected] to discuss this further with you please?Kind regards,Peter

We luckily managed to get in at Blackfriars with a last minute booking and I am so glad we did! One of the best meals we have had at a restaurant in a very long time, delicious and presented beautifully. The places itself is beautiful, it's exactly the sort of decor we love, very homely (cosy)! We chose a red wine from the list but was recommended another bottle by the staff which we went with (cheaper) and it was absolutely delicious, it went down a treat! Thanks again to all the staff for being so friendly and the kitchen staff for making our night with some of the best food weve had xThank you for taking the time to share your feedback on your recent visit to BlackfriarsWe are glad you had an enjoyable evening for your anniversary celebrations and we hope to see you again in the near future.
