Kirkby Stephen (/ˈkɜːrbi ˈstiːvən/) is a civil parish and small market town in Cumbria, in North West England which historically, is part of Westmorland. The town is located on the A685, surrounded by sparsely populated hill country, and about 25 miles (40 km) from the nearest larger towns, Kendal and Penrith. We just wanted a quick coffee and cake but we obviously chose the wrong day/time. It was nearly full when we arrived so it took some time before they took our order. We ordered coffees with an extra shot but got one less shot than normal instead! One drink was missed off altogether. We couldn't face waiting any longer so just made do. A couple that came in after us got 2 full cooked breakfasts faster than we got our coffee and cakes so maybe we ordered the wrong thing? I'm guessing from the other reviews that we were just unlucky with our timing so might try another time. Shame because we prefer to support independents instead of the chains.
Café 11 is an eaterie you can only fantasise about, because it has long since ceased to exist. It was there for while. replacing a previous place that wasn't very busy, but then Café 11 was also untroubled by sandwich seekers too. So it then became Dizzy Cow, which was only open for about a month, and only then 3 days a week and not at lunchtimes, nor breakfast. Evenings weren't much use either. On one of the rare moments it was open, I had a sausage bun. It was OK, and just as well I didn't want another because it has never opened since, although to drive past it, you'd think it might open shortly. Don't wait outside hoping it will though. You'll die of hunger.

After staying locally for a week and on our return journey we stopped off for breakfast at this lovely little cafe. We were welcomed in with our black Labrador who was fussed over and immediately brought aBowl of water and a little something from the treat jar. We had breakfast baps and a sandwich and all were very nice. Owners were very friendly and it was a lovely cafe. We even managed to buy some of the displayed teapots which we were very pleased about. Highly recommended place to eat. Thanks very much for the comments. It was a pleasure having you in the cafe and the dog was very well behaved as well as being absolutely lovely. Hope you had a safe journey home

Popular Cafe/Bistro in centre of Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria.
After cycling mostly uphill all day, this cafe produced a great panni/wrap. Perfectly adequate to send us on our way again.
