First time visit with Family, the place was full early evening. Shown to are table very quick which we had reserve, menu and drinks followed very quick. We ordered 8 different curries with an assortment of rice and nan bread. No complaints from anyone. The staff where friendly and helpful, we never felt rushed at anytime. The place was clean and tied. Will be going again.

We went there because we were staying nearby for an early morning flight out Manchester. We were 5 adults and 1 child. Naturally we went for a light dinner. The place was empty. Literally empty on a Sunday night. Not a fly. We sat and asked what we wanted for drinks. We didn't want anything because we were travelling. Then came 'pappodoms' . 50p each, we said no again because well, it's only pappodoms. Nothing fancy for us. We ordered 6 naans and 2 curries to share. That's when it started. The waiter of the hotel that had atleast 30 other empty chairs refused to give us it order because we didn't order enough. The bill would have been atleast 40 GBP. If there was a que, I would have understood the logic. We walked out naturally because he said ' All you Indians are always so miserly, always share and never order enough'. That we weren't hungry and wanted a light dinner didn't mean anything to him. Bloody racist. I feel sorry for the owner of the joint. I am sure our bill would have gone a long way to atleast paying that arrogant waiters salary for the day in an otherwise empty restaurant. Now I know why it was so empty.

We have been visiting the Massala Lounge for years both as a couple and later as a family. The service is good and the food is delicious. The menu consists of all the favourites you would expect to find on an Indian menu. The portions are a good size. The poppodums are always warm, crisp and fresh with a great chutney tray selection. My favourite Indian restaurant in the area.

Went on a quiet week day evening. Food was average. Staff very miserable and appeared not interested. Women's toilets were very scruffy indeed. There was a sign on the wall apologising and stating it would be rectified soon. According to a Google review this sign has been there for 2 months. Even worse there was NO water coming from the taps in the gents toilets.

As it was Sunday, it was best to book, and a good job we did as it was incredibly busy, this is probably due to the special Sunday buffet that Essence offers. We don't usually go for this and normally order from the main menu or have ours "custom" made. We've been going here for years and its always a very high standard. It may not be in the heart of Altrincham but is worth the small walk, as the service is always great as is the food.
