I booked a table for 5 for lunch a week in advance. Please note - booked. When we turned up we were informed that the restaurant had taken an outside catering job that day and consequently because they didn't have their chefs they had cancelled the lunchtime menu and we would have to order from the breakfast menu. 2 of the party felt that this was unacceptable and left. The 3 of us made the best of it & ordered Haddock Omelette and an egg & spinach dish which I can't remember the title of. It then transpired that they were fresh out of Haddock & Spinach, so we had plain omelette & poached egg.for lunch. They shouldn't have taken the booking.Outrageous.Hi Nick,Iâm so sorry to hear that you didnât enjoy your experience with us. We have always tried to ensure we give our customers a high standard of service and food. We have catering events every weekend but there is always a chef in BIRCH when we serve food. We serve a breakfast/brunch menu on a Saturday as weâre incredibly busy and this ensures we can serve people quickly whilst maintaining our high standards. We were extremely busy on the day you visited and we unexpectedly ran out of a few of the menu items. I will message you independently in order to make sure your next visit to BIRCH is satisfactory.

Sophie's Restaurant is a small, high quality French restaurant opening on Saturday evenings (occasionally Friday) only. The menu changes with the season and wine is served to accompany Sophie's cuisine from vignerons known to Sophie and Mark. Despite repo
We had an enjoyable lunch here. Very simple dining room but very French in ambience and with rustic cooking, inspired by the English owner's second home in France, and by their policy of buying wine from vignerons they know and trust near that home. If you want the familiar yet again, Sophie's is not for you, but if you'd like to live a little and can cope with a short simple home cooked menu, get down there and enjoy!
