Whitby is a seaside town, port and civil parish in the Borough of Scarborough and English county of North Yorkshire. It is located within the historic boundaries of the North Riding of Yorkshire. Situated on the east coast of Yorkshire at the mouth of the River Esk, Whitby has an established maritime, mineral and tourist heritage. Its East Cliff is home to the ruins of Whitby Abbey, where Cædmon, the earliest recognised English poet, lived. The fishing port developed during the Middle Ages, supporting important herring and whaling fleets, and was (along with the nearby fishing village of Staithes) where Captain Cook learned seamanship.

Iâve recently spent a lot of time floating around coastlines, visiting friends and attending weddings in the south west, then spending some time in the north east for family celebrations. Naturally this has involved eating a ridiculous amount of seafood, most notably the classic British dish of fish and chips. And BY FAR the best ones Iâve eaten on my travels was at Eskdale Fisheries. Located a few mile outside of Whitby, this place gives plenty of choice (including a few choices you donât see at most chippies) and serving incredibly fresh produce I absolutely loved this place, as did the wife. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a bite to eat either on their way to Whitby or staying in Sleights itself.

Visited here as it came recommended by my parents as being the best in Whitby. Was going to eat in but cannot justify £15 for fish and chips.. Whitby certainly knows how to charge for something which a cheap meal at home! Nevertheless, the food is really nice. We tried the fish, chips, steak pie @ sausages all of which were really nice. For the price the potions are quite small. Would visit again though as good quality.

We visited here at around 5:30 and were seated promptly. The menu has a lot of choice. We had adult cod and chips and children's sausage and nuggets with chips. Probably the best fish I've ever had. The batter was beautiful, not one ounce of grease or fat, crispy, hot and just lovely. Kids plates had a good amount of food: not too much or too little!Clear plates all round! Service was spot on. Actually quite nice to eat somewhere where you don't have dogs yapping at your feet. Yes the UK is dog mad, but not everyone is. We have dogs, but don't take them everywhere we go so this was a huge bonus for us here. Had a lovely Rhubarb gin and tonic with my meal, which was a nice touch! Go here if you appreciate quality! All this for under £50, well worth it.

A group of 9 of chose the Marine to celebrate the 50th anniversary of meeting each other in our student days and we were not disappointed: We pre-ordered which is fully understandable for a group of 9. The variety of choices on the menu was excellent with some really good vegetarian options. The food was superb and I would particularly recommend the shin of beef and the lobster. All of the staff did an excellent job in looking after us! I would not hesitate to recommend the Marine.

There's plenty of competition in Whitby for those who love their traditional fish & chips, but this one is right up there. Not in the most obvious/ prominent position, but fairly easy to find. The service and the food were spot-on. No complaints. And that little bit cheaper than some more famous places, such as Magpie Cafe.

What a beautiful place, in a beautiful setting, with beautiful delicious food!! A fabulous place to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We found this lovely restaurant on Trip Adviser and it really surpassed our expectations. We were on a break, travelling around the North of England and I can honestly say this was the best meal we ate all week. The Fish Pie was to die for, and the service so friendly and welcoming. If you're ever in the area, please go, you won't be disappointed. Plus we so wish we'd booked to stay there. They kindly showed us their accommodation, which was fabulous. If we go back to Whitby, we know where we'll be staying, far superior to other local accommodation.

Lovely food but so slow to deliver ,had drunk our bottle of wine before we got the fourth course ! 3 hours altogether Dear farmeggs, Thank you for taking the time to review us. We would have loved to know what you thought about our food. We're sorry that the tasting menu took too long for you, we do explain when booking that we ask people to arrive between 7pm & 7:30pm and people usually leave 9:45pm - 10pm. Perhaps any of our other services, lunch and dinner, where we serve a la carte would have been more suitable. Kind regards, Bridge Cottage

We arrived just after 8 on a damp evening after a full day in Pickering for the 1940s weekend. The place was quite full but the staff were not only friendly but really helpful and attentive. They even complemented us on our 1940s outfits. The places was spotlessly clean and very well staffed. Our food came quickly and was beautifully presented, hot tasty and very very good, not even crumbs were left behind? We were not hurried at all and the staff never stopped cleaning and made sure that we had everything that we needed. There was even information about where the fish and potatoes came from. we'll be back next year.
