We visited the New Inn several times during a holiday in Halse. The landlord was most welcoming and the beers excellent. We had three dinners there; each time the food was very good and served by a delightful waitress whose name I forget !We'll certainly go there again when next in the area and will recommend to friends.Thank you for supporting the village pub whilst you were on holiday. It's really important in such a small village that we do get people staying locally to come in. We always strive to improve what we do so really pleased you enjoyed it. Thanks. Richard.

We were on holiday in the area. We had previously eaten there and were aware that there were new owners, We went for Sunday lunch and it was amazing! We enjoyed it so much , we returned on our last night to sample other offerings on the menu....we were not disappointed! The steak and ale pie was declared scrumptious and my steak was delicious!Well done all! We will return next time we are in the area!

We are a traditional english pub and restaurant with a South African twist, offering dishes such as Crocodile, Zebra, Bobotie etc. We cater for all dietary requirements. We have a beautiful garden with children's play area. We are dog and horse friendly.
We visited accidentally on "burger night" which means you get really cheap burger and beer option, as long as you don't have any additions.Locals obviously take advantage of this - a table next to us literally ordered burgers with nothing on them and one drink each and left. However because the burgers are cheap, they come with about 3 chips and a tiny bit of salad.I get that the owners don't want to encourage too many people like the table next to us coming and eating effectively for cost price BUT I didn't want a cheap burger I just wanted a burger so I would have preferred to spend more and get a decent sized one with more than 4 chips. On reflection I should have ordered 2!!Wife's steak was decent and kids enjoyed their food too.Service wasn't great - took a long time to get a drink I had to walk to the bar to get attention a couple of times.I expect it could just have been an off night and I'd go back.As you visited us in August this year and only now posted your review we find this difficult to respond to. All we can say is we use the same good quality wagyu beef burger with a good portion of chips and salad whether its on our specials night or any other time, the portion size does not change. The whole point of having a specials night is to encourage people to come to try our food and hopefully come back again, which happens regularly, not to discourage them as you say. (as you said in your review you would return again) . As you can see from other reviews we have received we get nothing but good comments about both our food and service, we try our best not to have 'off nights'.

Was passing through Taunton on a bicycle trip and went to this pub after looking on trip advisor. Despite being a bit scruffy and not a local I was made to feel really welcome and the food was superb. Talking to some of the locals itâs got a very good reputation and my experience bore that out - highly recommended

We reopened under new management just before Christmas. We are a real country pub, with good ales, cider, wine, food and company. No telly or machines... children, dogs, walkers, cyclists and muddy boots are very welcome. All of our food is sourced from l
We had a very enjoyable family lunch - excellent goats cheese panini, burger and great chips and a great local ale being high points. Another guest noted that all the other local pubs were closed on a Monday, but even without that factor, we are Definitely going again.

Loads of parking. Welcomed at the bar. Polite staff showed us to our table, hidden away as previously asked for on booking. Lamb rump was excellent and would definitely have again on my next visit. You must check this pub out if you can find someone to drive you, so you can take advantage of the real ales!

We are a traditional public house and restaurant with 5 luxury bed and breakfast rooms. We serve fresh food using local produce.
Having read other reviews, I felt rather let down when we had our meal. I realise some of our party were late, but they had a distance to travel, with very young children. We offered to order our meal but it was clear we were all expected to be seated and order together, so we waited. That said, when we got out meals, my roast lamb was nearly cold and we had 2 very small dishes of veg between 10 adults, so had to request more. My mother was also not happy wth her roast potatoes but I think by the time we were eating had lost interest so didn't say anything until later. Waiting staff were good, I can't comment on anyone else. For reference anyone with children, there were only 2 high chairs - we needed both! and no baby changing facilities which is something that I would expect from a venue catering for families. I dislike being asked to tip, I will leave a tip if I think it is merited

The barman/waiter was friendly & professional. The surroundings & loos were plain, and two of the chairs wonky/worn in the padding. However the food was good for the price, though portion sizes could have been larger with lamb (small mash & peas). The burger particularly was special. Parking was good. Overall good.

We heard that the Sunday Carvery was not to be missed...........but we could not make the Sunday Carvery, so booked a Saturday Night. The whole evening was a pleasant suprise, the quality of the food was by far the highlight, clearly the pride of The Far Canal. So take the time to visit, enjoy the experience of a Chef, who knows how to cook; food. Looking forward to returning soon. You have to meet Nigel and the décor, is full of passion for the UK...........Thank you Simon, loved the evening.
