Traditional Country Pub
As the title says the staff were very friendly and the pub is in a lovely location but the food was disappointing. The melon for starter was clearly very over ripe, unappealing on the eye and still on the skin. The âpan fried chicken escalopesâ was delivered as a whole chicken breast. My wife is intolerant to black pepper and was advised that unfortunately all the sauces contained black pepper. Any self respecting chef would have offered and been able to knock up a simple sauce without pepper. No offer was made. I suspect he / she couldnât be bothered. Nevertheless we had a pleasant evening but it was a shame about the food.

Visited as under new management. No menu board outside. Entered and to left seemed to be a shop or store room ... unclear, looked disorganised. Turned right into a room where tables are crammed in. There was a chalk board ... seemed to be only cakes and coffees etc. Were hoping for sandwiches. One of the customers was a young screeching child. No staff member appeared to greet us, so we just left and enjoyed a lovely light lunch at byland abbey. Hi there,We do apologise if you felt you had a disappointing trip to our tearoom recently. This was our first day opening and done in order to support the Coxwold Open Gardens Day. We did try to make it clear that we were serving only teas, coffees, scones and cakes for the afternoon. The Interiors shop had literally just been moved from it's former premises and everyone else seemed to think it looked very good. Clearly, if a child is upset we would not dream of asking the parent/family to leave. This is a family run business and we strive to welcome everyone and make them feel at home.As for the tearoom itself, this has always been quite small. We have actually taken out a couple of tables since taking over so there is probably more room than there has been in the past!Light lunches, cakes and scones are now available Wednesday to Sunday. Hope to see you another time.

We went to the restaurant here on Friday 19th July for my wife birthday. We were seated in the orangery which is very nice, there were 4 of us altogether. We were looked after on our table by Grant and Dom and they really looked after us. All the food was absolutely excellent, they brought in a birthday cake which my daughter had baked and asked us if we wanted any of it but we had no room for it. All in all a great night out in a very friendly establishment and we will definitely go there again.

A country restaurant with 3 bedrooms
We stayed here two nights in room 2, described as a 'medium' sized room. It wasn't particularly spacious but it had a very comfortable king bed and a small but functioning bathroom. Decor and furnishings were neat and the room was immaculately clean. There was ample storage space and a good hospitality tray and large flat screen tv. A very quiet location in a small village, about 5 miles from Helmsley, but very convenient for the main attractions of Rielvaux and Byland Abbeys and Helmsley Castle. The cooked food was excellent, both at breakfast and for evening meal. The battered haddock was the best I've ever had, anywhere, both in terms of quantity and quality! And the meals are very reasonably priced for what you get. The staff and owners are particularly warm and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Thoroughly recommend.

I have eaten here several times recently and never been disappointed. It is a limited menu with at least 2 specials every day. If you are lucky enough to be there when haddock or sea bass are on special you will not be disappointed. The fish is very fresh and beautifully and simply cooked. Meat is from a local supplier and makes excellent pies and home made burgers. Prices are very reasonable and have been made very welcome thanks to Nikki and her front of house staff. Highly recommended.Hi thanks for the Super review the Seabass is one of my favourite dishes too!, along with our Homemade Chicken Pies. Look forward to seeing you again thanks Nikki

My 80th, my grandson's 19th. A Good excuse for lashing out. The service, the food, and the atmosphere were all beyond expectation. Fortunately it was a lovely day, so as wll as eating in an atmospheric, low timbered dining room, a stroll around the gardens made for a real relaxing Sunday lunch.Three had a starter of Black Pudding and Foie Gras - almost to die for, the fourth member had a terrific prawn cocktail.Main course 3 X Roast Beef and 1 X Roast Pork. Excellent amount of brilliantly cooked beef, the pork was of a slightly smaller portion. Vegetables etc as expected.Puddings - Apricot arrangement with orange ice cream - more of the latter would have been nice. My son had a souffle which was very good.Coffee to follow, plus a small edible recognition of our two birthdays which was a lovely thought.Beyond question, the staff - all young people, were totally professional yet friendly and approachable. Oh that the Star Inn wasn't a two hour or so's drive away. !0/10? You bet.

Chose the Carvery for Sunday lunch Choice of meat was extremely rare beef, pork or ham Vegetables were over cooked to the point that the food was very difficult to eat with a fork The chef serving the carvery was very miserable Service was slow in the dining room Only one person working the bars and the waitress who took our order etc was pleasant however we were not offered pudding or coffee So we paid the bill which we thought was very expensive for what we had eaten then left as the flies were annoying Won't be going backGood Morning,I'm saddened to read your review. I will personally speak to our Head chef about the problems you experienced when you came to dine at the Feathers. RegardsKeith
