In the interest or full disclosure, this restaurant belongs to a friend of my other half. We visited whilst catching up with our friends and had dinner here. First the drinks choice was great. I am a gin drinker and there were plenty of these to choose from, from classics to flavoured gins. For me, heaven. I had the garlic prawns to start and these were divine - garlic, white wine, a pinch of chilli and olive oil. I had to ask for extra bread to dip into that amazing sauce. I wasnât the only one - we all went for prawns. I followed this with veal. Not everyoneâs choice, but it was beautifully tender and very well cooked. Crisp sautéed potatoes and grilled Mediterranean veg completed and allowed me to scoop up more of the delicious creamy mushroom and onion brandy sauce. Worth the calories. Others on the table had spaghetti carbonara - very nice, fillet steak (very well cooked and very delicious looking), lasagne - again, really well made and full of flavour and finally seafood risotto - made the way risotto should be - al dente rice and packed with seafood. I had no room left for dessert, but the ice-cream was great. I always have room for that. The mint choc chip was lovely. The meal was very well done, the athmosphere in the restaurant was very lively and friendly, and the service good. I would definitely go back, and there was a lot on the menu I would still like to try. Highly recommended.

Not visited this venue for a long time, but it offers exceptional service and food. A hidden gem in many ways. The live music was an unexpected bonus on the evening I visited. A 2 for 1 cocktails offer also being available added to the fun of the evening. The staff are the jewels though in my view. Attentive to the right degree and just plain friendly.

The cookhouse is the crown jewel of the food scene in Whittlesey. Their sit down menu has never disappointed with the service to match. The takeaway pizzas are some of the best pizzas I have tasted - I would put them ahead of the ones I have had in Italy & NYC.Lovely people & could not recommend highly enough.

Italian Restaurant and Wine Bar also serving freshly made cocktails near Peterborough. 5 minuets from the A1.
If I could give 0 stars then I would, I came to this restaurant on Friday evening, there was only two of us and we both ordered two different style pizzas, mine was with more passata and less cheese and extra ham and my friends was just the meat pizza. They then brought out the pizzas and the ham they use is long chunks of ham like the takeaways use as itâs cheap, the cheese wasnât even cooked, it came out pretty quick which is why and my friend what I ordered and I got something completely different. I mentioned it to them at the end and I ate one slice to the âmanagerâ and I have had actually reported his behaviour to the police, I have never in my life been shouted at and embarrassed by someone like that in my life. His exact words were âhow dare you complain about nothing in my establishmentâ âyouâre a disgusting human beingâ and âif you donât pay for everything then youâre a vile thiefâ others were watching this around me. This isnât the first time this has happened so Iâve heard, Iâm not too sure why I went after knowing this but now I will never return. Iâd like to point out that half of their good comments on here are fake and if you dare comment a negative review on their Facebook page itâll end up getting deleted and you will have the owners squad commenting too. Absoloute shambles of a restaurant, trying to be something their not by charging loads for bad quality of food.I have struggled to work out how to respond to this review for almost a week now. This person did attend the restaurant on a Friday night, a fully booked Friday night, with no reservation. We will always try our best to find space for anyone who visits us and we did find a table, right next to the kitchen (so not the best table in the house). When the large booking's (a table of 20) food started coming out from the kitchen, we turned on some extra heat lamps on the kitchen pass, to which this person complained that it was too bright for her.We switched the lights off so as to not disturb this table (who hadn't made a reservation on a fully booked service). You had ordered one Vegetarian pizza with an extra topping of ham, less cheese and more tomato and a Mattoni Special pizza. We are more than happy to accept fault when we make a mistake, when the waitress brought the food over you identified that the ham was missing and that there did not seem to be less cheese and more tomato. My colleague at this point asked if you would like us to re-make the pizzas for you to which you replied 'no, I don't want to wait', yet you claim that the food 'came out pretty quick' in your review. Your friend, received exactly what he ordered. You were then checked on, at which point you were still, seemingly, happy with your food. Then when I, personally, cleared your table and asked if you would like to take the half remaining pizza home, you explained to me that everything was wrong with your meal, which again turned out to be just one missing topping and not the right ratio of cheese to tomato, in your opinion.I apologized to you that you were not satisfied with your dish, at no point did I say 'how dare you complain about nothing in my establishment'???You then requested the bill, which I brought over with £5.00 discount applied. I thought this to be fair as the two pizzas were a total price of £20 and considering you had left half of one pizza £5.00 discount seemed to be fair.I even explained to you I had added discount to your bill and you seemed happy.Around 5 minuets later, my colleague approached me and explained that you were not prepared to pay for anything, thinking that my colleague misunderstood the situation I came over to discuss the matter. You told me that everything was terrible and that you didn't want to pay for anything, I explained that you ate and drank everything other than half a pizza and questioned how you would consider not paying a penny for a two course meal with drinks as fair. You explained that you knew the law and that you didn't have to pay if you didn't want to.I must just explain to anyone who thinks this is the case, when you enter a restaurant you are exchanging money for goods and services as you would in a shop or a takeaway, there is no such law.I explained this to you and you told me that I had terrible customer service skills, to which I responded, that is not the case, if you don't pay you are not a customer just a thief. Would you be polite to someone telling you they are going to steal from you. I explained to you that failure to pay (at least for your drinks and starter) would result in me contacting the authorities. At which point you jumped up and ran out of the door having not paid. So, in fairness, you have no right to review us.However, the poor gentleman sharing a meal with you on this night, who was as red as a radish throughout your complaining and attempts not to pay did in fact stay at the table and paid for your visit. If this was (as I suspect) a first date, then I doubt highly you will be seeing him again.Mattoni will always accept when we are at fault, it does happen. We will always try our best to turn any negative experience into a positive experience for our customers. We welcome all types of constructive criticism whether it be in person, on Trip Advisor, Facebook, Google, or any other platform as it helps us to improve. In response to your final comment 'charging loads for bad quality food', you had a pint of premium draught larger, a 200 ml bottle of prosecco, a sharing starter and a 12" pizza each all for £32.00. That is £16.00 for a two course meal and alcoholic drink. If you think that is expensive, you clearly don't dine out very often, or if you do you clearly aren't paying.

This is a lovely Italian restaurant that serves the most delightful authentic Italian food. We attended at a very busy time when the restaurant was bursting at the seams with customers, but the helpful and welcoming staff managed to accommodated us as soon as they could. We liked everything about the restaurant in terms of food, drink and atmosphere. Everything was reasonably priced. The location is great with numerous car parks and other services nearby.
