First class family run Italian restaurant with accent on fresh fish. Quite inspired cooking and marvellous welcome
Iâve lived in Colchester for years, and Iâve always walked by here, on the way to a night out, thinking âmust try that placeâ and have never gotten around to it, until my friend came to Colchester. The food is absolutely divine, the service is accommodating and excellent, and itâs just a really lovely atmosphere. AND itâs family run and the prices are very reasonable. Donât even bother with chain Italian restaurants, this place is far superior.

My wife went here for lunch. The setting is lovely: a restored and embellished country house. The service is friendly and efficient. But the food, in our experience, is mediocre. My wife had ratatouille; I had a Caesar salad with chicken. Both were completely tasteless and my wifeâs food was lukewarm verging on cold. The meal wasnât hugely expensive, around £25 for the two plates plus sparkling water. But it wasnât value for money either. We wonât be going back.

We arrived for a cold drink. We ordered and then asked for food. The mussels are amazing. The burger looked delicious too pink for my partner yet it looked too epic for me. We need to go back. The team are attentive and polite. I honestly donât know why weâve not been in this place in the past year of us being in Essex. Well done to all at CST weâll be back. The chief is a credit

Cloisters is found in the early C20th part of the building. With a definite Art Deco feel, you will find the seating so comfortable, the atmosphere so relaxing, that you will not want lunch or dinner to end! Here, modern European dishes are given a superi
I was taken out for dinner her with a rather fussy 18 year old recently so, having looked at the menu beforehand was rather concerned - she ate everything! The dining room was full, rather formal looking as is fitting in an old building and expensive hotel, but people were wearing a range of clothes from casual to very formal - so it wasn't stuffy. The staff were attentive but not overly so. I can see why some people think the menu is old fashioned, one of my companions had lobster bisque which I haven't seen on a menu for years, but we were curious and he said it was delicious - the lobster came on the plate with the sauce poured over it at the table; a bit of drama. My starter, braised fennel and main, sea bass were well prepared and served - the fish was fresh and a generous portion. My daughter enjoyed the sweet potato soup and her gnocchi - the first time she has willingly eaten Stilton. We added a small pot of chips to share. Some of the dishes may seem old fashioned to those that have to keep up with trends and think anything else isn't worth trying, but all I am interested in is the quality of the food. It was good, much of it local and obviously home made. One slight criticism. We ordered the coffee and desserts at the same time and were surprised when the former arrived first - and were drunk before the desserts arrived. That isn't the norm as far as I am aware and I was surprised that a restaurant of this quality made such a basic error - I have no problem with them arriving at the same time.

We booked quite late, but got a lovely table for two. For starters we had Halloumi with strawnerries and Quail. Both quite delicious. For mains, Moules Frite and steak and chips. Only moans were steak was requested rare and came medium rare and needed a finger bowl and maybe a chunk of bread for the moules. Puddings were Eton Mess with pink peppercorns and bread and butter pudding with custard. Both original and exquisite. Service was perfect and with liquor coffees and a nice bottle of Rose it was 85 quid. I've paid more for ordinary pub food. Only steak prevented top marks.

We were very happy with everything and the price was very reasonable considering the high quality of the food and service. A couple of improvement opportunities would be to serve the tap water chilled like everybody else and offer the vegetarian menu with the main one(there was only one vegetarian option on the main menu so we were glad we asked as we had not checked beforehand).

Italian Restaurant New Opening Homemade Icecrean,Pasta,Pizza
Excellent service from the moment arrived until the moment we reluctantly departed. Food was delicious, even my rather fussy daughter enjoyed everything. The fish cakes were sublime. The host was charming and entertaining, the chef was concerned that you enjoyed his creations, he really didnât need to worry it was all exceptional. An absolute gem of a restaurant, see you again soon.
