The Isle of Wight is the perfect place to enjoy some peace, quiet and natural beauty. Except perhaps in the summer, when the Isle of Wight Festival draws visitors from all over the world. In 1970, the Festival was the largest rock-music event ever held. It was called Britain's Woodstock and featured Jimi Hendrix and The Who. (Not so much peace or quiet that week.) The island is also known for its world-famous sailing and lovely resorts, where people have been vacationing since Victorian times.

This is a lovely restaurant with spectacular sea views and a great vibe. Beautifully cooked fish with an inventive menu at the price you would expect (£200 for three courses at dinner with two glasses of wine each and service). The only downside was that they really did not understand about gluten sensitivity so this may not be a good choice if you have food intolerances.

Visited last month with family and enjoyed. Delicious food to chose from. Service wasn’t quite as attentive as imagined as had to keep asking for drinks etc - but they were fairly busy with some larger parties. Overall very happy, thank you. Apologies! Larger parties are no excuse for not looking after you too. Glad you enjoyed our food and thank you for the positive review. We hope we get a chance to serve you better next time.

We had Sunday lunch here.i ordered Roast Loin of Pork.It came in a large hunk rather thn slices and only warm. There were four or five tiny blobs of apple sauce, about the size of 5p coins. The only veg on the plate was parsnip. The loin and parsnips were charred/burnt on the outside. When I say burnt I don’t mean browned, they were black and the pork was dry. There were no dishes of alternative vegetables.i was very disappointed as the hotel is quite highly rated and th meals are very expensive.Dear Chuckle 3369We are very sorry that you found the Roast Pork to be substandard on your recent visit to the Royal, for the past two years we have served the Pork on the Sunday Lunch menu as one piece rather than thinly sliced as we have found it retains the moisture better. We are always pleased to serve side dishes of vegetables if requested and extra apple sauce is available. Our Sunday lunches have never been busier and the majority of the guests are regulars. We are not the cheapest venue for lunch but we do offer traditional service and source the majority of our ingredients from local suppliers. We do hope you will return for lunch in the future.

We went there when trying to find a place for lunch in Ventnor; the place is attractively decoarated, with friendly staff, and the sausage roll was one of the best I'd had. The only downside was that they don't accept credit cards, so you need to bring cash with you.Thank you for your review. We are currently looking into taking credit cards, and finding a package that best suits us and our customers. Hope it wasn't too inconvenient for you, and hope to see you again.

Artisan Bar & Kitchen

Reviewed By FunAdventure2

I’ve visited the Artisan since 20 July and have met Jamie, Lynette, Angus, Ben, Rob and Anthony as the bar staff. Anthony served me my first ever Artisan coffee last Sunday. The atmosphere is outstanding.I have met Jamie most often out of the staff, who, like the other staff is very accommodating to customers’ individual needs, who provide a warm welcome to me and other customers.I also made my first ever visit to the Upstairs part of the Artisan on 28 September which I’d not got around to visiting before last Saturday where they have an additional bar and seating. The Artisan also holds live music.I have varied having one or more soft cold and hot drinks to one or more drinks and a meal, and staying for a few minutes through to an hour or longer, depending on the occasion in question, but whatever the duration, I always arrive and leave feeling happy at the Artisan. The Artisan has many alcoholic drinks including cocktails, as well as soft drinks including an exquisite orange juice from freshly squeezed oranges, and a separate fizzy orange juice drink, plus specialist rhubarb and separately apple drinks among the wide variety of drinks they sell.At my most recent visit, Lynette and Jamie were on duty. On this occasion, Jamie took my order at the bar counter and also delivered my fish & chips meal to my table (an excellent size portion of both) where I watched and listened to a Jazz trio performing to my right at the far end of the downstairs (entrance) room.Wow thankyou for your fantastic review, it really is much appreciatedAnthony

First visit since change of owners. Retains its intimate atmosphere and service is perfect and welcoming. The food is well cooked, but somehow lacks the lightness of touch of the previous chef and presentation is only average. A much more rustic style. Feels a little like a talented chef playing it too safe.Only other issue is the placement of the coat hooks directly outside the open kitchen. Having coats dry cleaned to eliminate odours is quite an overhead!Remains a cut above any restaurant in the East Wight and, with some small tweaks, has the potential to rival the best on the island. We will return. Recommended. Many thanks for your review, we’re glad you enjoyed your evening with us and hope to see you again next time. With regards to the coat hooks, it is an issue that we are aware of, and are in the process of remedying. Many thanks,R&J

We booked Thompson's based on an internet search and reading TripAdvisor reviews, as we live in the north of England. We'd had a lovely day with beautiful summery weather and a trip to Osborne, and our visit to Thompson's rounded off our visit beautifully. We had the tasting menu, which was superb in every respect. All staff were friendly, relaxed and very knowledgeable. The food was beautifully presented and prepared, and also gave us an opportunity to try things we wouldn't attempt at home, such as cuttlefish 'tagliatelle'. I mentioned to the waitress that I wasn't a big fan of parmesan, but it wasn't a particular issue, and voila, the kitchen staff made sure my meal was tailored to my tastes, even preparing some gnocchi to replace an element of one dish. Oh, and the we have to mention the quirky cutlery, the good quality Riedel glasses ( yes, we use them at home ), and the complimentary amuse buche and pre-ssert.
