Visited for breakfast whilst on holiday as it had been recommended to us. We both had eggs benedict, one with bacon and one with smoked salmon. Friendly service and tasty food. It is slightly pricey but for the quality of food, definitely worth it if you fancy treating yourself. Thank you for your great review. We are glad that you enjoyed your breakfast with ushere at Below Decks.

We visited just to have something to eat ( as we visited the Abbey last year ). After studying the limited menu (not many things to chose from no sandwiches etc ) we ordered a Sausage panini and a breakfast with two teas. When it arrived I asked for brown sauce from the young girl, after waiting a good five minutes I went to the kitchen area and asked for the sauce and some salt and pepper as well. The breakfast was awful the sausage was hard (reheated )the toast was the thinnest I have ever seen ( rock hard and cold ) the egg was overcooked almost solid. But I must say the bacon and beans, tomatoes were ok wow. The sausage panini was nothing to write home about, just passable except it had salt and vinegar crisps with it. All of this for over £20, not worth it and will not be back. The staff (young girls ) were not very customer-friendly, forgetting my sauce and other customers who ordered tea or coffee (sat outside ) had to come inside looking for sugar etc which should have been taken with the drinks. The staff obviously need some training in customer care and not look so glum.

Came here for Sunday lunch with the family. The band wasn’t playing until the evening and according to my sister in law that one of the main attractions that made their cost a week earlier so incredible. Nonetheless, we were here for the food.We found the menu somewhat limited (again all the accolades on trip advisor and FB led to expectations). What we worded was good but no exceptional, and for us, one visit is enough. We had the miso aubergine (eggplant) with couscous- seemed very sparse with only 4 1 inch pieces of eggplant, some sauce, half a cup of couscous topped with some puffed vermicelli (or similar) & scant change from 10 quid: the mussels in garlic & cream/wine - this was a largish serve at almost 15 quid but as the mussels are so small, nothing to scoop the broth up with so whilst happily consumed all still left with almost a full bowl of broth which lacked nuance (garlic all the way); the plaice on the other hand was fabulous with Cavlo Nero & roasted spuds- still a bit exy cost wise for what we got but this dish seriously good food. The resturant was maybe at 1/3 capacity yet table service relatively slow. When paying at the bar (you pay when ordering) , we literally had to argue that what they were charging was incorrect as they had undercharged by almost 50% (!!!). Definitely worth at least one visit so decide for yourself as regardless of our experience still fabulous to have new resturant on the Torquay scene and one that seemingly is responsive to feedback and is evolving to consumer needs.

Went here as they did gluten free afternoon tea but was left a bit disappointed. They have a separate gluten free menu and the lady who makes the food really knows here allergens it seems (separate prep area etc). 3 cakes were available gluten free, two of which were also dairy free and dairy free margarine was used for our sandwiches.Maybe they were having a bad day but things did not go smoothly. They seemed to have a new asian lady taking the orders and she could not understand my accent...despite my job being one where I deal with people in a clinical setting and I often get comments on how easy I am to understand.Anyway, we tried to make our order, but she gave us a pen and paper to write it down as she couldn't understand. Then she came out after a bit to check which part was gluten free (later the person preparing to food came out with it to the table and that is how we know she knows her stuff). Part of the order did not arrive and so we had to chase it. The gluten free afternoon tea on the menu says a choice of cookie was included but there are no GF cookies. The gluten free sandwiches were a but dry and bland sadly and the cakes were sweet but a bit tasteless.I so wanted to like it here but just felt a bit let down by the end. Not awful but not a treat.Sorry you had this feeling we aim to satisfy our customer please come aging

Popped in here after a 3 hour drive, never been to this area before. Lights were on, people sat inside eating so I thought, fab I’ll go in here for a cup of tea and a comfort break- as I approached the counter, staff just staring at me like I was from another planet- “we’re closed” was the response I got. It was 2.30pm on a busy Thursday afternoon in this little village. I was then shown the closed signs on the door, among many other posters/flyers etc which you’d have to look hard to spot. So I left and had my cuppa elsewhere- and very nice it was too. Maybe this place gets tourist fatigue in the summer? I’m not a tourist, I’m here with work but not a very friendly first impression. Very odd experience all round. Thanks, your comments are clear to us, their are 2 signs clearly displayed on the entrance door and side of entrance to help all our guests they are equally the same size as our menu displays in the main window and both very clearly state last orders are 2.15 pm l not sure what flyers you are referring to. You asked to use the facilities and then order a drink. The only couple remaining was actually preparing to leave. We are disappointed you feel this way and all of our extremely loyal and local customers are always delighted with our service levels along with the tourism trade.

Absolutely amazing little cafe. Down to the nice quaint seating area and from the very pleasant staff to the lovely cooked food. First ever visit for us and I'm very pleased to say we will definitely be returning. For us it's the best place to have breakfast In the area. We've visited most of the cafe In the area and this one is top notch. The food portion was huge and the pot of tea was just how we like it. Well done to all involved in this little gem.Definitely would recommend coming here.

Hidden in a little corner of Torquay town centre is this beauty of a cafe. With a small selection of breakfasts, it suited both my husband (traditional cooked breky) and myself (Smashed Avo, egg on sourbread). Suberbly clean, a lovely welcome from the owner and great homemade cakes. I highly recommend this cafe for families of all ages. A few games help keep my children entertained while our food was cooked. As a visitor to the area, I'm so glad we followed the trip advisor reviews and visited here. Lots of seating upstairs as well as downstairs. Thanks for a lovely breky. Thank you very much for taking the time to write us such a super review. We are glad to hear that you all enjoyed your visit to us, and hope that you are having a great holiday.
