Sandown is a seaside resort town and civil parish on the southeast coast of the Isle of Wight, England, which neighbours the town of Shanklin to the south, with the village of Lake in between the two settlements. Sandown Bay is the name of the bay off the English Channel which both towns share, and it is notable for its long stretch of easily accessible golden sandy beach. It is the site of the lost Sandown Castle. Whilst undergoing construction, this was attacked by a French force which had fought its way over Culver Down from Whitecliff Bay, resulting in the French being repulsed. It was built too far into the sea and constantly suffered erosion, until now reduced to a pile of rocks. Later forts in the town include the Diamond Fort (named after its plan), built inshore to replace the castle and which fought off a minor attack from privateers (probably French) in 1788, and the present "Granite Fort" at Yaverland, which is now the zoo. Together with Shanklin, Sandown forms a built up area of 21,374 inhabitants.

Tea rooms for breakfasts, light lunches and afternoon tea. Various coffees and fresh home made cakes.
I visited for lunch with my family and ordered the cheese and onion panini. We had a long wait for our food, and when we finally received it, I was so disappointed with my panini. It was barely filled...not much cheese and hardly any onion. Real let down. Didnât stay for dessert...not much choice compared to some other places, so we went across the road to another cafe for dessert.

Family any I were planning to eat dinner in the evening so we wanted a simple lite lunch e.g. toasted cheese sandwich and the like. After walking almost the whole length of the sea front past the hundreds of fish and chip shops, we came across this place. All freshly made, reasonably priced, and friendly staff. It had a great view of the sea too. This place is a real gem !

Restaurant, tearoom and cafe specialising in light lunches, cream teas and snacks with spacious garden and attached gift shop.
Found via TripAdvisor and would thoroughly recommend, although a bit small for sitting inside on a wet day. Service was very attentive and the food was of a good quality and reasonably priced. Will remember for a future visit to the island.Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are pleased that you enjoyed your visit and look forward to seeing you again.Lisa & Derick

Traditional beach café serving all day breakfast plus a range of hot and cold meals and snacks. Freshly ground coffee. Open daily 9am to 5pm throughout the holiday season (March to October), with extended hours in high summer. Please note that the cafe is
It attracts customers because there's no competition. It's OK for a coffee , tea or a snack, but there are no toilets and lots of wasps...... If you fancy a loooo-ong chat with the owner then this is the place for you.Thank you for your review. No competition? I think youâll find that our nearest neighbour, just 100 yards or so away, is also a café.My husband remembers talking to you, in response to your questions. I am sorry if you thought his answers long-winded but, for some reason, he feels obliged to explain to people who have managed to miss a total of 7 signs in and around the building warning about the lack of toilets, why this is. For the benefit of others reading this, the signs are not a joke, THERE ARE DEFINITELY NO TOILETS!!! The land owner is unable to install them due to the instability of the cliff. Iâm sure the Environment Agency would be none too pleased if a landslip caused a break in the sewer which contaminated the beach and affected the quality of the bathing water. As for the wasps, we have done everything we can to deter them, but still they continue to do what wasps do. I can assure you that they are just as annoying to us as they are to everyone else. Possibly more so!

We were staying close by and were going to go out for a long walk along the footpath which goes over the Culver cliffs. We stopped off at the Kiosk before our walk for a delicious full English breakfast. The service was friendly and the food was very good. It seemed a very popular place, as we arrived there shortly after it had opened and by the time we left it was full - as so were we! We chose to eat inside as there was a chilly breeze in the air, but there are tables arranged outside so that you can take in the wonderful views of the coastline. The Kiosk also sells buckets and spades etc as they are right next to the Yaverland beach. We would definitely recommend and will visit again.

I was out Sandown only a few days ago & went in this cafe again as I always do when in the area. On every visit the staff are always very friendly and welcoming, the food is always freshly cooked and very tasty and prices are such food value. This visit I ordered chips, sausages, eggs & beans with a can of drink - 6 quid for a tasty & filling meal. Can't ask for much better than that !

Stopped here for lunch whilst shopping in Sandown. Had a tasty all day breakfast which was beautifully prepared and presented that really hit the spot. The young girl who served us was friendly and efficient. Would definitely come back if ever I'm in the area.

The Salix Cafe is situated right on the beach at the end of a row of picturesque beach huts with spectacular views of Sandown Bay and Culver Cliffs, awarded Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Sit and watch the ships go by with spectacular views from insi
Having visited Shanklin beach on a busy day we were pleased to find the lovely Small Hope Beach. Quieter and a nicer atmosphere than the main stretch. The Salix Cafe was busy with a live band playing outside. Overlooking the beach you could sit with a drink while the kids play. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming and the staff lovely. The food was really good quality and very good value for money. Great ice cream too. Look forward to returning the next time we visit.

A family-run licensed beachside cafe with indoor seating and a new, large roof terrace. Casual dining and drinking by the sea.
You get what you hope for in the beach shack. Some seafood options, including the perennial favourites of fish and chips, burgers, a very nice sea view, friendly service with a smile, and dogs are welcome, both outside on sunny days and indoors when you are postponing the return walk. We had a pleasant light lunch, I chose the avocado and crab stack, would have liked the lobster but unfortunately not available, the food was tasty, with a small salad and a chunk of crusty brown bread, not an enormous plateful but perfect size for me as I had ice cream room. Husband went for Scampi and chips, again a small portion but perfectly adequate, we both had clean plates. Plan a return visit when friends come to visit, maybe I will be lucky and lobster will be on the menu.
