Stopped in here for breakfast. There was a good selection of food on offer and efficient waiting staff. Prices are a little higher than some of the other cafes in town.

We visited on a Sunday and ordered two smoothies.Smoothies were made with concentrated juice out of tetrapack, no real fruits, no milk. They tasted bad and artificially. We had a sip and it was not worth it to drink more.We left after few minutes the smoothies were handed to us, waiter checked on the full glasses but did not bother asking why we left the drinks and left.Smoothies menu is extensive, I would appreciate if one or two options were available, but made with real fruits.

We are a child friendly cafe and children's book shop in Hertford. Amongst other things we serve homemade cakes, freshly prepared toasted sandwiches, soup all served with a large dollop of friendliness. We have various gluten free options and also have a
I have been a long-standing customer at Leaf - frequenting the cafe (sometimes daily) since its opening. I was so excited when Leaf opened, even though I didn't have children at the time, as I love cafe bookstores and the coffee and cakes were always top notch. Rebecca created such a warm and welcoming atmosphere that kept me coming back, even after she had moved on. So, I was extremely disappointed today when I was (politely) reprimanded for bringing food from home for my 15-month-old. This is a tricky matter, I understand, as the cafe is a business, but as my child is still young and sitting in a highchair I didn't really feel that the "cafe food only" policy needed to apply to me. My child also has an egg allergy, which means that I can't simply order from a menu. In addition to speaking to me, two other mums with babies who couldn't have been older than 8 months, eating purees, were also spoken to... The sign on the wall clearly says that baby food is the exception. The owner mentioned that they sell baby food - Ella's Kitchen pouches - which is lovely, but it is a parent's right to decide what they feed their babies, so to insinuate that these mums should have been giving their babies anything other than what they felt comfortable with was taking liberties. I would also understand my having been spoken to if I had been sitting there with a glass of tap water, but I always order something for myself - at least a coffee and cake - and I am reasonable about the amount of time I spend in the cafe, so as not to take tables from others. Today, there were plenty of empty chairs and tables. When I left I decided to share my thoughts with the new owner. She did not apologise or attempt to make amends, but instead blamed the former management for creating the policy and tried to defend herself by saying how difficult it is to manage parents who don't order food and use the cafe like a free soft play. I think, perhaps, that this is discussion better had with a business advisor or with colleagues than with me - the customer.I have had plenty of pleasant experiences at Leaf cafe and I won't let one unfortunate incident overshadow years of the kind of customer service which makes a place feel like a second home. Sadly, though, it seems as though the once welcoming atmosphere has faded and the response I had to my frustration made me feel as if they would rather see my regular business go than to concede that perhaps they've been a bit hasty. That's fine. I don't claim to sustain the cafe on my own and I am not trying to ruin a business, but if they continue not to discriminate between long-standing, respectful customers and those that are taking advantage they are going to alienate a very large and powerful percentage of their clientele - Hertford mums.Hello,I am sorry about your experience yesterday and the fact that you felt the need to respond publicly. As I said yesterday to both you and the other ladies, this is a really tricky area. I said at the time that it made me feel awful and I did apologise to all parties concerned about raising the subject. It has always been a company policy to discourage people from bringing their own food in - it was not an attempt to pass the blame onto the previous owner it was simply a fact. As I explained - sometimes we get people bringing in huge tupperwares of food. It is awkward and embarrassing for all concerned raising the issue. Us as well as for the parents / carers. When you mentioned your child had an allergy I said in that case we obviously would not have an issue. We are not monsters, a simple mention at the till when you order that you have bought something in for your child as he/she has an allergy or whatever reason is usually enough. We just need to know and understand your reason for bringing something in. It is not unusual for restaurants to discourage the bringing in of food from outside.Since I took over I have worked hard at creating a friendly , welcoming atmosphere so I am a little hurt at that remark but I'll take it on board and continue to work harder. I have introduced story times 11am daily and increased the number of free daily child events. "Board games" on saturday afternoons is gaining in popularity and it is a joy to see families sitting round tables playing games and clearly enjoying themselves.I hope that you will come and visit us again in the future but that is your prerogative and once again I am sorry for your disappointing visit.Kind regardsCarol

A new concept in fresh and convenient dining where honest food takes centre stage. Fresh and healthy, cooked to order and prepared in-house. Nothing microwaved, nothing fried. Eat in, eat out, order for delivery or collection.
The best chicken ever, cooked to perfection! I love how it falls off the bone, the spicy sauce is amazing and love the sweet potato fries. My family also love the Mac and cheese, lasagne and various other dishes. Never a bad takeaway from Galos!

Mudlarks is Hertford's charity cafe, provides training and paid work for adults with learning disabilities, enabling everyone to take a full and active role in our community. We are also Hertford's only vegetarian and vegan cafe, with gluten free options
Mudlarks is a local initiative that I believe started with an allotment run by, and for, folk with learning difficulties. The cafe sells good quality, largely vegetarian, food and is also run with the help of employees with learning difficulties so while you have a great cup of coffee or a healthy lunch you can also support the community of Hertford who are special.

Visited this cafe for the first time today and chose it based on the reviews and I wasnât disappointed. We both had a sandwich, and they are absolutely huge. Very thickly cut fresh bread and lots of filling. We also both had a coffee and the bill came to £7.30. Excellent value.
