We came as a group of friends for a special afternoon tea and mrs Lyons didnât disappoint. The cakes are all gorgeous, in fact you might sturugglento get to the top tier of the cake stand for the slice of cake! The afternoon teas are amazing, lots of lovely sandwiches, amazing little treats, scones (which are warm), clotted cream and jam and your choice of cake! A huge slab of the stuff! Amazing. Great food and superb service. Thanks mrs Lyons for a special afternoon tea with great friendsHi. Thank you for taking the time out to give us this fantastic review! We turned up without a booking at 6 pm on a Saturday evening and were immediately seated at a table upstairs. The service was very good and the drinks orders were taken promptly followed by the food orders. Starters arrived within 5 - 10 minutes and were very well cooked and presented. The mackerel was lovely and the fishcake was so light and tasty. At this point the restaurant suddenly became much busier and I have to say with the quality of the food on offer it didn't surprise me that the restaurant was so busy. However the service did seem to suffer. Our mains were served after 25 - 30 minutes but we didn't mind this as it quire clearly stated on the menu that all dishes were cooked fresh and there could be a delay. I must say at this point that the wait was well worthwhile as our different dishes were faultless and the sides were perfect. It was obvious all were prepared and cooked with care. The only negative was 20 minutes after finishing the mains the dishes were not cleared and no dessert orders taken so in the end the gloss was taken off the evening, hence the 3 star review. This was solely down to the staff not being able to cope with the number of customers. We all enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, but you really do need a couple more front of house staff to keep the service up to a standard that is hoped for. Basically, a good atmosphere, great, tasty food at a very reasonable price but your good, efficient and friendly staff need a lift during your busy periods.

We would like to welcome you to The Black Pepper. A family run bistro located on Library Street in Wigan which opened its doors to the public in May 2018. Serving modern British Food, using classic flavours, with a twist. If you would like a quick bite to
This lovely little restaurant is out of the main shopping area, so you would have to know about it. Halfway down Library Street it looks very unassuming, but it is such an elegant dining experience. I had cauliflower cheese which was superb, and other members of our party had the Coley special which was cooked really imaginatively. They do serve wine, but only by the bottle, or you can bring your own. I cannot think of any negative points. A lovely evening in pleasant surroundings at very reasonable prices

We visited on Friday next and it was a set menu which had plenty of variety plus some specials. We both enjoyed our selections but the desserts were fab We found the prices to be reasonable for the quality of food. The staff were all lovely and attentive without being intrusive. Now that we have found this place we will definitely go back next time we are in area.Would recommend booking.

the Market Kitchen is a family run restaurant serving french inspired food and classic dishes all prepared in-house using locally sourced ingredients. Our ethos is simply to use the very best ingredients, cook them and serve them with pride, in a warm and
Me, my wife and 2 teens visited here on Wednesday 4th September 2019. We were a little apprehensive after reading some of the previous other reviews which were not complimentary. Those reviews proved to be ridiculous. The fool who commented that the waitress wasnât rushed off her feet on his visit sums of the idiocy of some of these reviews. Last night the waitress was brilliant. She wasnât rushed off her feet because she is a professional! She handled our requests excellently. I guess being French explains why she was a little more laid back than some would prefer. I am fortunate to have been able to travel all over the world (check out my other reviews) and rarely have we had food this good, presented so well at this price range. This food is easily equal to that if some fine dining, 5 star restaurants I have eaten in. If this was London the price would be massively more expensive. The menu is limited simply because everything is cooked on site (in an open kitchen). I could open a restaurant with 30 main dishes if it was all microwave food. This restaurant is the real deal and we will be back. Ignore the reviews from the goons who will always find something to complain about. Try this place out and you will be pleasantly surprised.

Enjoy the Houghwood experience in a perfect setting, overlooking the beautiful North West Countryside. With a modern British menu on offer, together with traditional Sunday Lunch. The first floor restaurant with its great food, friendly staff, magnificent
Very pleasant surroundings with beautiful views as far as the river Mersey. Brunch in the Spikes Bar was okay but the menu has been much reduced including the disappearance of the scrumptious turkey and cranberry sandwiches. No festive afternoon teas being served this year also a disappointment. Hopefully the new year will see a review of the menu. Also £2.25 for a small bottle of Coca Cola is rather excessive.
