Discover Restaurants offering the best British food in Wells, England, United Kingdom. The name Wells comes from the city's three wells dedicated to St. Andrew. Now there's a fun factoid to fill up your next awkward silence. In England's smallest city, you won't find the big summer crowds of nearby Glastonbury. Instead, you'll have more than enough room to sight-see as you please. And there are plenty of youth clubs to entertain the kiddies while you wander. The cathedral in Wells is the landmark attraction, but also check out the nearby Bristol Zoo Gardens and International Helicopter Museum.

Originally 3 cottages knocked into one, The Ring O Bells is a 14th century pub in the heart of the picturesque village of Wookey, 2 miles from the Cathedral City of Wells, the smallest City in the UK and 6.5 Miles from Cheddar & Glastonbury. The pub still
We have enjoyed lunch here a few times and were very happy with the food and service. The menu is quite extensive and the portions are massive so it is not for the faint hearted. The pub sits on the village street which is very quiet and there are no views, but we sat outside each time and enjoyed the local atmosphere.

This weekend was the first time my husband and I have eaten here in probably 5 years! But what difference to the quality we had then. Our bill was just short of £100 (admittedly a bottle of Prosecco included in this) weâve had some outstanding food for this amount of money a fair few times over the years, But Goodfellows unfortunately didnât deliver. We both eat the same. The starter consisted of some dry lamb mince which didnât taste of anything but lamb. On a CRAZY amount of VERY garlicky Houmous! It was so overpowering we could taste it for at least 24 hours afterwards. Not pleasant, and we didnât finish it. For our main we had scallops, for which they charge £25. Initially the price wasnât a problem, Iâll happily pay good money for good food. And the scallops were indeed cooked to perfection and were delicious. It came with the standard pairing of bacon, and a tiny amount of smooth potato purée (certainly not a filling amount) However, the rest of the plate was made up of, yet again, a crazy amount of very undercooked, tough fried leek!! This dramatically devalued the dish for me and was again completely unnecessary. Or at least shouldâve been cooked properly, so that they were sweet and soft as they should be. Weâre good honest people and believe that if you eat most of a meal, it should of course be paid for. But the food delivered on the night Iâm afraid to say, most defiantly did not deserve a tip or a raving review. And we wonât return. 3 stars for pleasant staff, and a lovely bottle of fizz shared with my husband.

Saturday night at 6pm. The pub is empty. Totally. I ask for a half of bitter. The barman says I have to check I can serve you as we are fully booked. Just in case you missed it earlier , the pub is empty totally . I say how long do you think it will take me to drink half a bitter. Anyway he comes back eventually and says he can serve me. Obviously I said donât bother. On the way out the owner / landlord shouts out an expletive which I canât put here and says donât come back. What do you think, am I ever going to go back. Check my other reviews and you can see I am generally very positive. Please please donât give this establishment your custom. Whatever the quality of the food donât support rude serviceThis person attended our restaurant in an intoxicated state. Staff and management advised him he would not be served. He became verbally abusive and this caused alarm and distress to staff and customers. In order to safeguard our customers and staff he was asked to leave.

Discovered this busy little cafe while walking into town having parked in Waitrose car park. Located on a street corner facing a church. Seating available both inside and out.I had a lovely cream tea complete with mini tea pot - tea tasted great very refreshing. Hubby had a fabulous coffee (a bit of a coffee snob complete with extra shots) - left very happy! Staff friendly, quick and efficient. Worth a visit - enjoy!

Lovely, friendly local business. Food has always been very good especially the breakfasts. Great for families as there's plenty of large tables available, does get very busy at popular times

Ensemble is a family owned and run restaurant in the heart of Wells with an enviable view of the Cathedral from our tables. We have been in Sadler Street for over three years and the extended family has a long history of hospitality in the area going back
This was our third visit this year and sadly the most unsatisfactory. My lamb was cold when it arrived to the point that the fat(which I like!) was beginning to congeal. I suspect that it was left too long waiting as my partners scallops (by contrast absolutely superb) were being given meticulous attention. I declined replacement - too hungry to wait! - and made the most of what would have been a lovely piece of meat. To compound matters my pudding was poor, the pastry dry and unlovely. The management did rectify things somewhat with a free glass of wine. I like this restaurant and can overlook the occasional inconsistency in quality : Iâm eating there again later this week. I hope my faith in them is justified!I was sorry to read that your last visit was not to your expectations, as your previous were so enjoyable. All our dishes are cooked to order to insure the best quality & flavours are achieved & our desserts prepared fresh daily. We would have liked to re-cook your meal, so your lamb was to your liking, but understand that you were too hungry to wait.We do hope that your next visit restores your faith in the food that we serve. I look forward to seeing you return.

Great fresh in house cooked food and a warm friendly welcome. Perfectly situated in the Market Pace, Wells, in an historic building, overlooking the Town Hall and a stone's throw form Wells Cathedral.
Quite expensive when there is so much competition locally. Decent size cup for the coffee and not too much froth. Will it be my first choice cafe in Wells? Unlikely but certainly better than some of the franchises.

Visited this lovely Restaurant twice while in Wells, first for Sunday lunch and then for evening dinner. Both times had the two course Dinner offer. Many wonderful choices on both menus which were cooked to perfection. Great value for money. Special mention to friendly and attentive staff.

Pillars is quickly earning a reputation for one of the best venues in town. Set over 2 floors and a secluded alfresco terrace, the ground floor bar offers an extensive range of wines, Champagnes, beers, ales & ciders as well as its own brand of home brewe
Five of us had a really good Sunday lunch. The beef and lamb dishes arrived promptly and the portions are more than generous and very tasty. Desserts took a bit of time to arrive but we were informed why and when they came they were delicious.
