Well the restaurants was selected for four people on vacation to celebrate their final night together; having searched the online menu, we booked a table for a Monday night, having read all the lovely reviews. The restaurant was easy to find and the appearance was cosy indeed; we were on time and greeted by the Waitress and shown to our table. On viewing the menu and not seeing a single dish suitable for a vegan diet, I asked if there was a vegan menu or specials board I could see; only to be told that Vegans could not be catered for as the Chef cooked in traditional methods with butter and cream. Having trained initially in the Kitchens of fine Country House Hotels, i was shocked at this response. I queried the notion that vegans were not catered for here and was retold - No. I left my party to find a vegan meal and returned in an hour for a delicious cup of Coffee. They being carnivores and foodies, were impressed with the range and quality of the food. The eldest son, also a talented Chef, stated the food he received equalled to that he had sampled recently at Le Manoir Quat'Saisons; a real seal of approval. However, for my own impression of this restaurant after being so looking forward to sampling fine vegan food was so disappointed, especially as the tripadvisor site clearly states vegan dishes were available. The Dinning room was by no means busy and disappointed that the Chef could not have pulled a simple meal out if the bag for me.My critique and ratings are based on the unavailable vegan choices. I can only imagine what a vegan meal would have tasted like here: if vegan choices appear once more, I would certainly like to sample the restaurant afresh...!Hi Paul John Griffiths,Firstly let me mention that we have no control over Trip Advisor stating if we do or don't cater for vegans. Secondly you say you booked online through our website - on the first page we state we don't cater for vegans, I would have hoped you would have read it.We cook with traditional French methods which means butter butter cream. It's just how I've trained and the team works, I'm sorry that it put you in a difficult position but with the risk of cross contamination there is no way we could guarantee a dish not containing animal products. On your online booking form it does offer people to state any dietary requirements, we could have called you prior to your arrival to avoid the situation you found yourself in. People shouldn't expect restaurants to cater for vegans they should check with them directly. So currently we've been given 2 stars for our coffee and not for our food which you haven't tried, a bit harsh given the level of information provided. If you ever change your life style choices you know where to find us and I'm very pleased your friends enjoyed their meal. Yours sincerely Rob Clark

That was my reply to the lovely manager Kevin when he asked about our meal, and truthfully it mostly was. Service at the hotel was exemplary and we and Iâm sure everyone else was made to feel special. There was a good selection of wines available at not too exorbitant prices. Tables were nicely placed so you are not to close to others in the dining room. I wasnât however blown away by the food. I thought a few of the dishes of those I had were a little one dimensional. By that I mean there was not much contrast and balancing of flavours in the dishes I had. A prawn starter I had was very tomatoey ( not a real word I know) and tasted strongly like ketchup. My main of smoked mackerel had no respite from the fish done 3 ways and I found myself longing for some dressed salad or vegetables to balance out the fishiness and inject some lightness. The 2 pea shoots offered little freshness. I looked longingly at the vegetables on my husbands plate. My dessert also orange sponge, orange ice cream and orange sauce I had a similar thought, just needed a contrast. The highlight was a pork Wellington, beautifully cooked and served with nicely seasoned mash and beans. We both enjoyed it very much All in all good food, most people at the hotel we spoke to really enjoyed it and we would definitely come again.

Eat Me Cafe sits quietly in a backstreet of Scarborough behind the world-famous Stephen Joseph Theatre. We offer a diverse multicultural menu, serving hand-packed burgers, Japanese Ramen, Shetland Pie, Thai Curries.... And much much more. 95% Of our food
Without a doubt one of the best places to eat in Scarborough. Eat Me Cafe offers something unique to locals. From their steak burgers and 'dirty eggs' to the ramen noodles, Thai green curry and Shetland pie, the food is outstanding! The food is freshly made, ingredients locally sourced, and you can just taste their enthusiasm for great food in every bite.Definitely order a portion of chips. I don't know what goes into making them (beyond potatoes), but good God are they divine!
