Blagraves House is a charming historic 15th Century building. With its heavily beamed ceilings and large open fireplaces, it has been playing host to weary traveller and businessman alike for some 500 years. It has connections with Richard III. It is also

On entering this place an insect & spiders web infested glass roof was most welcoming especially when they seated us directly underneath. This obviously not been cleaned all year. The tables were sticky and not cleansed between sitters , the floor was covered in crumbs and under the soft furnishings there was food debris that was not from that days service. Permanently surrounded by uncleared tables. The overall observation was very grubby and needs a very intense deep clean. They prided on a wood Pizza oven! Our Pizza was raw, not just under cooked but clap raw. How could anyone cooking/ serving not notice? Just a very badly managed operation. One is always amazed that managers do not visit , observe and come back and implement the best idea's of the competition. Its easy. A silent person took our money as if not bothered if it was satisfactory or not. Then going into the food hall!! ................ untreated sterling board on top of used old tyres were used to shelve food. That was it for us. In stead of featuring sheep on the roof maybe just clean the place and spend a day staff training.

Fish & Chips at 149 is located in the beautiful, historic market town of Barnard Castle. Our listed building is a unique and characteristic image of a 19th century property and the traditional shop frontage can tell a few stories of fish and chip heritage
I went in there a couple of nights ago, just to get a portion of chips to take home. They were busy and there was somebody at the front of the queue with a massive order, then lots of other big orders, then one of the serving staff decided to disappear on his meal break, leaving a massive queue out the door. Then everybody decided to stand and watch a pot of curry sauce heating up, which caused further delays. In total, it took half an hour just to get a portion of chips, which is really unacceptable. If they anticipate those sort of delays on such a small, simple order, they should tell you before taking your money. Once you have paid (which you have to do when you first go in) you are stuck waiting. One person from the cafe was complaining that the haddock was very dry, but they didn't seem to care and just charged him anyway. In the end I complained about the wait and they eventually did my portion of chips, but to have to complain about waiting half an hour for such a small, simple order is just wrong.Pity, because usually it isn't a bad chippy.

We have recently opened our takeaway and cafe in the heart of the lovely market town, Barnard Castle. We've always found that the traditional way of cooking fish and chips, is by far the best. We cook in double refined best beef dripping and our chips are
We have been here several times and have never been disappointed. We are elderly and love the Special which is a smaller portion of fish and chips, bread and butter, mushy peas followed by ice cream and a pot of tea all for £6.50 each at the time of writing this. All the staff are very pleasant and the Service is so quick. The cafe is small but we have always managed to get a table for 2.Thank you so much for taking the time to write your lovely review!Itâs brilliant to hear you have enjoyed your visits to Katieâs and in particular our very popular cafe special! I will pass on your comments to all of the team, Iâm sure theyâll be so pleased to hear them!We look forward to welcoming you back again soon!
