The Castle Inn, Lydford is a quintessential 16th century inn with nine bedrooms resting on the fringes of Dartmoor National Park. We are surrounded by invigorating walks, horse trails and national cycle routes, with cosy corners and roaring fires in the w
I've always enjoyed the Castle Inn. It's pleasantly old fashioned, with genuine old settles and an air of slightly rough and ready antiquity I personally enjoy. The food is decent and I particularly enjoyed their "Blue Pie", which includes steak and a local blue cheese. It's not slick, it's not trendy, but it doesn't try to be and I'd rather call in here for a meal or a drink and many a more pretentious establishment.

Traditional pub in the heart of the village. Very friendly staff and great atmosphere. Extensive menu and Specials board. It's always hard to choose! The meat is beautifully cooked and the homemade pastry just melts in your mouth! An excellent chef.So glad we came across this pub. It's one of our favourites!

The white Hart Inn in Bridestowe is a delightfully charming 17th century village pub. Set in the centre of this popular West Devon village, there is a warm welcome to locals and visitors alike. Appetising home cooked food at affordable prices is available
Weâll definitely be back. · We booked a one night stay the day before arrival and asked for a first floor room due to mobility problems. Very pleased to get an email from the hotel within 15mins saying all our requests would be met. On arrival Melissa the hotel receptionist was charming, professional and knowledgable and helped us with our luggage. Jake the night porter was friendly and helpful and again in the morning Kayleigh helped us with our bags and parking. It is obvious that the staff all work well together. We purchased breakfast at the restaurant and it was good. The best bit was the room, large twin bedded room but the beds zipped together to make a super king size bed, good quality bedding and I wanted to take the mattress home with me! Although we were above the main entrance and overlooking the busy junction we didnât hear a thing, the curtains were very heavy blackout curtains and certainly did their job. Great walk in rainfall shower and modern decoration. Tea & coffee, biscuits, still and sparkling water provided. All at a fantastic rate. Really pleased and will certainly look up other Wetherspoon pub. The staff made our stay just that bit better than normal and were great ambassadors for the hotel. · No parking but there were about 4 disabled bays at the back and public parking nearby. Not hotelâs fault as it is the oldest inn in Okehampton.

Our first visit was good but the second not so. Food on first visit good. Scampi well cooked but partners Hunters chicken a bit dry. Second visit cold ham and 2 fried eggs both had solid yolks, awful. Partners steak ok. Only went back a second time as the other place we wanted to try was closed.

After walking 3 miles up onto the moors from Sticklepath this Inn was just what we needed. Firstly the ale was served to perfection at the correct temperature. The publican certainly knows how to keep his real ales.Lunch was reasonably priced and tasty. We had the chicken pie, fish n chips and sausages. The chips were light, tasty and very crispy. Portion sizes were more than adequate!Definitely worth a visit if you are anywhere nearby.

We were lucky to get into this popular restaurant at short notice. The welcome was warm and friendly, the atmosphere relaxed and staff attentive and efficient. The food quality was very high and portion sizes generous. The prices were also very reasonable. Definitely worth a try.

Woody & Carolyn welcome you to The Kings Arms, South Zeal, a traditional local pub which is over 500 years old. We are open all day, everyday, offering a fine resting place for locals & visitors alike. Our selection of real ales is accredited by the CAMRA
Good selection of beers.Staff did not ask how the food was. I believe this is because they already know the answer!I was very disappointed with the lack of salad in the burger. The microwaved bun could of been of more use as General Building Material in the construction of houses!Would definitely not eat here again, food did not appear to be prepared by someone who enjoyed there job!Very sorry to hear this, it is not what we would expect and not in keeping with our normal practice as our other reviews would suggest. As it is not clear when you visited we will speak to all our staff - we do ask that they check all customers once their food has been served - however if you had alerted them to the fact that you werenât happy they would have done their best to rectify the situation at the time. We will also speak to our kitchen staff to ensure we continue to meet the high standards that our customers expect from us. I am sorry to hear you wonât be visiting us again as I do believe this was a one-off, unusual situation, which we would have preferred to resolve at the time. Kind regards, Carolyn (Landlady)

We had a supurb meal here on Sunday night. Very impressed with quality of food and thought it was excellent value for money. Good honest delicious food - not posh (or trying to be) just great pub grub. Happily go back and try other stuff off the large menu.

Took my dad here yesterday lunchtime. Heâd been a number of times before, but my first. A nice welcome banter from the jovial barman/owner. We ate in the bar. Both had starters and main courses from a short menu which had something for everyone. All were fresh, tasty and good portions. The ham hock terrine and the scotch egg starters were particularly good. Cost was reasonable for the area. I would definitely recommend and would come again.Dear Peterj2010Thank you for your lovely review of The Oxenham Arms South ZealWe are so pleased that your Father and yourself enjoyed lunch. We have a completely different menu for evenings of course so hopefully one day you may come and try our evening menu either in the bar or restaurant. Thanks again !Lyn and Simon PowellThe Oxenham Arms South Zeal
