For our rather damp week in The Lake District - but nonetheless thoroughly enjoyable - we took a cottage in Outgate. Opposite, across a small paddock with sheep is The Outgate Inn. After a long drive in heavy rain the line of least resistance was dinner there. A decision well rewarded. Excellent beer and food to match. More 'homely' than 'fine dining' the portions are more than ample with a varied menu plus specials. Such is the size that we did not dip into starters or puddings but going by what we had thwy will be top rate too. Between the two of us over our three evenings we sampled six dishes. Not one disappointed but in particular the Duo of lamb Chops were delisiously succulent and the Beef Hotpot stunningly good. That we went three times speaks words; added to which it was comfortably full each time.Service was swift, friendly and efficient.Loved it!Thank you for the great review and we are glad that you enjoyed your visits with us and we look forward to seeing you again.

A truly traditional Lakeland inn. Good food, real ales, bed and breakfast accommodation and self-catering cottages. A warm welcome awaites at the Kings Arms, Hawkshead, which lies in the heart of the English Lake District in the beautiful. The Inn, on Haw
Visited on a Tuesday lunch. Typical homely pub as you would expect here. No airs and graces, just good ale and good pub food. Nice roaring fire, reasonable prices, fast service, allows dogs in the bar area. Not much else I can say. Hits the spot for us and would have no hesitation in going back again.

We were actually stopping in another hotel in the village, but we were walking around and called in here to have our evening meal. The place has recently had new owners. The menu choice was not massive, but something for everyone. The meals we had were gammon, pie, and chicken burger. All meals were very good, and they realised they missed the cheese off the burger, so brought a complete new one out... but we were happy with just a slice of cheese. Desserts very nice also. Nice range of beers, and a lovely friendly service all evening.Hi AlisdairtThank you for your review, we are pleased you enjoyed your experience here. We hope to welcome you back to The Queens Head in the future

What can i say...this was probably our worst experience of eating out ever!I don't believe these guys are taking the food side of there business seriously. We entered the pub expecting someone to greet us and show us to our table..nope, we had to queue for 10mins at the bar to be told we were sitting at table 15. Taking our seats and looking forward to our food we waited.... after 15 mins of twidling our thumbs a gentlemen approached us to take our order...didnt mention drinks, I did requesting a bottle of wine, jug of water, a couple fizzy drinks, simple. I had my doubts when the gentleman struggled to understand a word of english but i'm an optimist and thought everything would turn out just fine. How wrong i was. No drinks arrived after 25 mins so i questioned Manuel, who apologied and went to sort the drinks. As the food arrived so did our wine, oh well we can deal with that. My meal and my wifes meal arrived, then the kids fish and chips turned up...oh hang on a minute the kids ordered cumberland sausage...the fish returned to the kitchen and miraculously two cumberland sausage turned up 5mins later...only i think they forgot to cook them, cold. At this point i spoke to the manager and left. Never again.

We stopped by the Sun for dinner whilst camping in Hawkshead. Very friendly welcome and good selection of real ales. We ate the mushroom risotto and the veg curry, both of which were really tasty. Would happily return next time we visit the area.

Stopped serving food 45 mins before the advertised time - weâd even checked at the bar 30 mins before and been told 8.45pm finish. Our disappointment was greeted with a shrug - no explanation or apology. Didnât feel welcome so wonât be going back. Which is a shame as we visit the village fairly regularly. I think this review is very unfair, especially to give one star when you haven't even eaten with us. Food was actually served until 9pm every night this weekend. On Sunday At 8pm we did stop taking orders for twenty minutes, unless you had made a reservation (which is obviously strongly advised this time of year, especially bank holiday) while the kitchen got caught up on orders, after this food started again. I'm sorry you wont be coming back again but don't think this review is a true representation of what happened.

We have visited Coniston for the past 2 years and always look forward to a well deserved afternoon drink after a long walk with the dogs and an evening meal and the Yewdale definitely doesnât disappoint - lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, dog friendly in the bar, great choice of quality food and very tasty - highly recommended, we will be returning x

We are a traditional English Inn, in the heart of the Lake District offering a warm welcome, helped by a roaring open fire in the cooler months! The bar stocks award-winning cask ales, a selection of fine wines and malt whiskies. We offer classic pub food
We stopped off here for our first pint on arriving in Coniston after a very wet walk along the Inn Way from Broughton, having been forced by the very difficult underfoot conditions to keep primarily to the roads rather than the prescribed route. The beers on offer were OK (we both opted for Cumbria Way) although Iâm not overly a fan of Robinsons - so we only stayed for the one pint and ventured elsewhere to find some more interesting ales.

Excellent weekend away in Coniston. We ate in the Black Bull on the Friday night. I had the Cumberland sausage which was good quality meat and very flavoursome. Some of the other guys had the fish and chips which they all enjoyed. Some nice local ales, good ambience, helpful staff and cosy little fire. All in all we were very happy
