The Royal Oak

Went here for lunch on a freezing cold and wet day. The Good Pub Guide entry made it sound just the job. What a disappointment. The place is very run down - metal single glazed windows which let in the draughts, broken fixtures, tatty upholstery, and indifferent staff. Unless you were lucky enough to be sat at one of the tables near the fire the rest of the pub was cool or downright cold. We weren't the only people keeping our coats on.A strong smell of fat from the kitchen didn't bode well for the food, and the results bore that out. Two of us had curries which were said to be homemade; they were simply disgusting. A chicken one had lumps of carrot and potato in it and the sauce was oily and dull. The veggie option had lumps of assorted veg which were undercooked. On the positive side the Hobsons 3.8 was really on song, and those who had the fidget pie were pleased with it.This is a real shame because the village is to die for, as is the surrounding countryside. With a bit more effort and some careful upgrading this could be a totally classic pub.

We were staying nearby and the Royal Oak was the most obvious place to eat. However, we were totally put off by recent reviews citing lack of cleanliness, rude staff etc. Fair to say, whilst we were in Shropshire we had two wonderful meals elsewhere but on our last night, my curiosity got the better of me and I popped into the Royal Oak for a pint. What I found was a happy, friendly family pub with a lovely welcoming feel, cheerful staff and what looked like superb food, totally recommended by locals that I spoke to. Can't wait to come back and have supper here !

Ate here at lunchtime, after a recommendation from a friend. I had the station burger, which was cooked medium and to perfection, it was absolutely delicious, and for once I could taste everything in the burger, the cheese was yummy, and the burger was juicy and lovely. My partner had a 10oz flat iron steak, med rare, and it was to die for, came with lovely chunky chips and mushrooms. All were delicious, and we will definitely be returning.

Kings Arms

The Kings Arms is quite a quaint old pub and that does make the restaurant a bit crowded in. However the menu has quite an interesting range a bit above pub food. Service was pretty attentive and food quality was quite good. I had Cajun chicken with noodles. It might have been better stir fried together rather than just heaped on the noodles but the flavours were fine.

Visited just as the pub was closing but the owners were great, and served drinks and chatted to us outside. The pub looked lovely and we would love to return one day to sample the food. Everyone has off days (even landlords) and the 2 reviews before me seem odd as there are SO many 5 star excellent ones. Hope to see you both again one day

The Green Dragon

My friends and I visited for a meal on Saturday. We were served by professional.and competent staff. The food was excellent. However, once the main course had been served it was as if the managers had left the building. Young staff sat chatting with their friends around the bar or at tables . No one asked if we had enjoyed our main course or checked whether we wanted a desert. We became the last table in the building and it was obvious that we were going to get no further service so we payed and left. This has been my go to place when friends visit but I am going to have to look elsewhere. Which is a shame as the food is excellent.

It has been a long time since I last visited this pub, I won’t leave it so long again. This is a fantastic country pub, with a great atmosphere. When we arrived the pub was quite full, so I guess a lot of people had just ordered food before us. So we did have to wait for our food quite a while, but it was worth the wait. The food was fantastic, as a party we had 4 different main courses and 3 different deserts. The standard of the food was excellent, a great evening out.
