The Travellers Inn at Oxspring is run by Jack and Ruth along with our brilliant bar manager Ant whose accent is certainly not from Yorkshire! The Travellers (formerly known as the Fours) is set in a wonderful rural location and is the perfect destination
We went for Sunday lunch had a film Sunday roast, a fisherman's pie and a Yorkshire pudding veggie dish. All super, all served piping hot in the bar area where welcome dogs had their own special meal.We will be back. Thank you very much for your kind review - its really lovely when people take the time and trouble to comment - look forward to seeing you soon. Furry friends are a big part of the Travellers and hope your doggy enjoyed their meal too!!

The Spencer Arms was built in 1720 and is now one of South Yorkshire's best Gastro-Pubs located in the beautiful village of Cawthorne, at the foot of the Pennine Hills. Full of olde world charm, log fires, friendly service, delicious food and Cask Marque
Today we came to your pub and while the food was great, the service was horrendous, long waiting times for food we had to tell the waitress to come take our order & to clear away our plates then to wait 45 minutes for the main, when we went to ask how long the food would be the very rude girl said well as you can see weâre very busy today ..!! If this afternoon was busy to you then I would hate to know how long the waiting time would be if the pub was actually half full as there wasnât many people there at all!! Not once did anyone come and ask if our food was ok! When ordering I asked for gravy the girl taking the order said thatâs fine! When my meal came without the gravy I asked if I could please have some, where I received a very rude reply of âwe donât even do gravyâ !! We then later after waiting so long cancelled our puddings as we couldnât wait to get out, I asked for the bill and paid at the bar obviously I was in a rush to leave so just paid the bill, upon looking at my receipt I noticed we were charged for 2 extra childrenâs drinks when they should have been included in the price as we ordered 2 meals off the childrenâs menu! Absolutely appalling service and what should have been a lovely afternoon for my sons birthday turned into a ruined/ stressful afternoon. Ridiculous

My wife and I were visiting friends in nearby Worsbrough and they took us to the Boatmans Rest, a typical old English pub ( as I like) non of this " Wine Bar " stuff. The menu was varied as you would expect, we booked a table for 6pm, and it was all ready for us, I had the Fish and chips with mushy peas plus bread/butter my wife had the Chicken Sizzler, I have never seen such large portions, I could not believe the size of my fish. When we had finished they asked us if everything was ok. I said (jokingly) that next time can you ask the chef to take the Harpoon out of the fish, Not only did you get quantity you also got quality, would I recommend the Boatmans Rest yes of course I would, Plus they also serve my favourite tipple John Smiths Smooth. Our meal for four including drinks came to less than £42, so you also get VFM ( Value For Money) so go there and enjoy.Lovely friendly staff as well.

A nice setting and good service but the food was a bit bland with some strange combinations. Eastern Mediterranean vegetables in hot water-crust pastry is a bit weird. A more earthy combination, brown lentils, onions, mushrooms and potato might have been a better combination in a paprika warmed thick vegetarian gravy.

At the gateway to the Grade I listed Wentworth Castle estate sits The Strafford Arms, an historic restaurant and country inn. Located just outside the town of Barnsley, the picturesque Yorkshire countryside setting oozes tranquillity. A popular watering h
My mum received a gift voucher of afternoon tea for two, and asked me if I would like to go with her. I did, also taking my wife, who would just choose something off the menu. We booked in in accordance with the voucher and went the following day. On the voucher it reads, traditional afternoon tea!! Unfortunately itâs anything but. In fairness to the Stratford arms, on their website it explains that itâs a contemporary afternoon tea, but we went expecting the later. When the afternoon tea arrived on the mini wooden bench, my heart sank. This was never afternoon tea as we knew it. However we dug in. A mini fish and chips, was quite nice, a poor Luke warm soup, ( quite tasteless) a skewer of dried up chicken and a cold square of puff pastry, with goats cheese beetroot and spinach on it, which was very dry.The sweet section was popcorn, a bit of cheesecake, that looked like it was the left overs from a dessert and a burnt, brick hard chocolate chip cookie. There was a very nice scone, with jam and cream and a smoothie that was just to sickly. All in all not a great advertisement for afternoon tea. Oh, and there was no tea either, never once offered it!!My wife ordered the chicken liver parfait! The parfait came in a dariole mould, and was quite sloppy, but worse still was sour! My wife sent it back, the waitress returned to tell us the chef had removed it from the menu, admitting he had forgot to put sugar in it!I am yet to come across a recipe for parfait with sugar in it, unless of course it is a sweet parfait! The parfait was taken off the bill.Good afternoon Robert,Thank you for getting in touch. I am really sorry to hear of the confusion between the details on the voucher, and the menu that we serve. In order to offer something a little different to our customers, we created our new Contemporary Afternoon Tea back in October last year, which has proven to be a great success. We try to avoid the word Traditional in any of our marketing, as you have seen through our website etc. I am very sorry that on this occasion, the voucher you received stated different. I am also very sorry to hear that you were not offered a hot beverage, and I have spoken with my team about this to ensure all members of the team are offering this. Really sorry to hear that your wife did not enjoy the parfait but I am glad that this was taken off the bill for you.We would like to discuss your experience a little further, so please don't hesitate to contact me at [email protected] at a time convenient for yourself. Kindest regards, StevieThe Strafford Arms

The old âRing 'O' Bellsâ pub has been tastefully renovated to create The Bells Restaurant. Being hundreds of years old, every effort has been made to maintain the old charm of the original building with every corner telling a story of old. During your vis
We thoroughly enjoyed the wine pairing evening last night, which conveniently coincided with our wedding anniversary! The four courses were all delicious, great value for money and we enjoyed the opportunity to be food and wine critics for the evening! Service was the best we have had by far locally. Lovely setting and great atmosphere. We tried things we wouldnât usually go for and enjoyed the different wines with each course. Made our anniversary feel a bit more special.Canât believe we havenât tried The Bells before, we will definitely return and hope they do more events like this!

Situated within a Yorkshire valley just a short hop from the Trans Pennine Trail, you'll find a warm welcome at the Waggon Here at the Waggon we pride ourselves on the quality of our ingredients and our service. Our restaurant is a traditional, cosy count
This is an ordinary pub on the outskirts of Barnsey not in the centre of London. £7.35 for a pint and half of Heineken, (usually the cheapest lager anywhere) didn't even pay this on holiday in Cornwall, By the way the chips are usually handcut but this week they were out of a packetDear Joan SThank you for taking the time to review your visit here at The Waggon we value all reviews and welcome constructive criticism as it helps us improve our business. The price of our beers and wines are competitive with similar independants within the area. You will find that Heineken has rebranded as a premium lager with a new blend hence the price point ... gone are the days when it is considered the cheap option I'm afraid. Now the 'packet' chips I really do take offence at this remark as it is simply not true! We pride ourselves on serving fresh produce including our chips which are all peeled, cut and cooked on the premises and welcome you to come and ask to look in our kitchen and see for yourself before you make such untrue statements.I would say that we hope to see you again however as your husband made a point of storming out saying he wouldn't be back again I think that this will not be happening. We are sorry that you felt like this however looking at your previous reviews on trip advisor then there are not many places that fit your price expectations except your comparision place of choice - 'Crown Carveries' . We are a very different establishment to these mass producing chains (who have economies of scale on their side if not quality and fresh ingredients) hence I think maybe its for the best you choose there so that your expectations are met, as they are not being with all the one star reviews you seem to relish writing.Take care and I hope you find what you are searching forKind RegardsSamantha Brewis
