A casual traditional English country pub
We stopped here for a late lunch, as it was the start and end point of our walk in the Chilterns. Situated opposite the village green and Penn Wood, and surrounded by fields and open countryside, The Squirrel is a great walkersâ pub. It has a friendly atmosphere and dogs are also welcome in the bar area. The Squirrel has a good selection of food for the size of the pub, and offers everything from a three course meal to snacks. We had the jacket potatoes, and a large potato with three generous toppings was £6.75. The staff were friendly and helpful too, which added to the relaxed feel of the pub.A lovely little country pub, whether youâre walking in the area, or just fancy a meal in a rural setting.

We had a great value Travelzoo voucher for 2 courses and a glass of fizz. The setting is idyllic, the young staff are lovely and very efficient and the food is fabulous. As we walked in I saw the Thai menu and assumed it was only available on certain nights, so was very pleased to be given this menu as well as the standard one as it was included in the deal. The curry was very pleasingly hot (maybe too much for some people but perfect for me!). A great place, and I hope to return.

I had afternoon tea booked here for my mums 60th and 2 hours before we were meant to go they phoned to cancel it. At first they offered no solution or anything until I said I wanted to speak to a manager. In the mean time I had to book something else last minute as I didnât want my mums birthday to be a let down. The manager eventually called back and said as we had booked something they would arrange afternoon tea for another date. We gave them the date and they said they would call to confirm this. 3 weeks later and still no call. Needless to say we will be going somewhere else again- very disappointing service.

A beautiful flint and brick old English inn, The Ivy House is right in the heart of the Chiltern Vale and renowned for its excellent food, real ales and extensive wine list. With quaint accommodation, it's also one of the best places to stay in the Chilte

We went for lunch with a relative, and had a great time. The place is clearly very popular, and the range of menus (eg summer specials) was excellent. Food and service was great. Being a Friday, we went for Friday Fizz, meaning that a bottle of Prosecco was reduced to £12. Sorted. We would return in a flash. Best to book, as even on a Friday lunchtime it was busy. Lots of locals eating.Hi Linsday. Thank you so much for the fantastic review! I am delighted to see that you and enjoyed your meals with us and took full advantage of our Fizz Friday. We look forward to seeing you again soon here at the Boot and Slipper.Thank you once again from Myself and all the teamKelvin

Visited on chance for lunch and wished this pub/restaurant was closer to home. Interesting menu and some good specials on offer, the bar offers interesting ales and good wines. The staff were very friendly and food superb, portions generous and would not recommend trying to eat three courses unless very hungry. Pork belly excellent and sea bass special equally good, along with the sticky toffee pudding which was shared. Highly recommended place to visit.

This is not really a restaurant, it's a pub and the food is served in the bar. A limited choice and it's basic food. There is a television in the bar and at the time we visited There was a football game on. There was also a group of people who were swearing and making constant exits to stand right outside the door and smoke. The past reviews are good which is why we chose it, mostly the reviews are overrated, if we new the area better we would have upped and left to find somewhere else. When it came time to pay there was a mistake with our bill as somehow two bills were added together. I'm not going to go back. Its overrated and not very clean or tidy enough for me

300-year old traditional Country Pub / Restaurant in beautiful picturesque olde worlde English village. Wisteria round the door, wooden and carpetted floors, real log fires, original beams. Private areas available for functions.
Friendlt, welcoming staff from start to finish. The menu was varied and creative. The food tasted awesome. Served beautifully. Prices are a little more than we pay locally, but when you have quality food and portions like we had and saw others. You dont mind. We eat out at least once a week and i can honestly say, that it was the best meal with extensive choicesThanks so much for taking the time out to review The Hit or Miss. It's kind of you to describe your experience as the "Best meal out ever!", we will make sure the staff team know this. Great of you to also mention how friendly and welcoming the staff were along with your kind words on the menu, taste and presentation. Please visit again soon and enjoy another meal with usâ¦
