This is by far our favourite Indian restaurant and if you have never been before get yourself along and see what all the fuss is about. There is always an extremely warm welcome from every member of staff and sets the tone for a delightful dining experience. The decor is superb and to an extremely high standard throughout the restaurant. The food is always amazing as with any meal we have had previously. It does lunchtime specials so if you are planning a lunchtime visit would strongly advise booking in advance as it does get busy.On this visit we opted for the lunchtime special x 3 and again the food was simply superb. It includes your starter and a main with the choice of rice or naan bread - any additional is extra but always find that the portions are ample and very rarely any need for extras. Also included is an ice cream or a coffee. The food is always delivered piping hot and very well presented. The 2 young waitresses are the epitome of professionalism and always very polite and courteous and nothing is ever too much bother for them and a credit to this restaurant. It is definitely our first choice and as it close to where we live it is a no brainer when we decide on Indian Food - be it for lunch or an evening meal and never disappointed so will always go back.If you choose from the main menu it is a little more expensive but in my opinion always worth paying that little bit extra for first class service and stunning food combined with sumptuous decor - and this place has it all.So if you have not been yet - ask yourself why and get yourself there.

Situated beside the River Wear in Durham City, Amaani Durham is an Indian restaurant serving elegantly crafted Indian cuisine.
Visited last week for our anniversary. Booked about a week in advance and were shown to our table promptly on arrival. Our drinks and food orders were taken quickly. Poppadoms and dips were given straight away followed by our starters within seconds of us finishing them. The starters were poor, onion bhajis were very dry and bland - possibly the worst we've ever had in any Indian restaurant. No sooner had I put down my cutlery then the main was thrust onto the table. The curry was better quality and tasted good but the speed of service was so quick I struggled to eat it all. A 10-15 minute break between courses would be much better. Again, as soon as we had finished a waiter appeared and asked for further orders. We said no and were promptly given the bill without requesting it - I still had 3/4 of a pint and my wife a glass of wine to drink! All in all the whole experience took just shy of an hour! which spoiled what should have been a special evening. There are many better Indian restaurants than this and we would not return here again.

Went with a group today. The service was very slow considering we were a party of 5 and the only other table occupied had two people on it. The starter came eventually and it was very spicy which is unusual for an onion bhaji. Some of the party couldnât eat it. We waited again an unacceptable amount of time for the main course which was mediocre. This restaurant has changed management since I last went and, in my opinion, not for the better.Dear MaryThank you for your feedbackWe are sorry you were disappointed with the service and not happy with the starters and main course.I can assure you, there has been no management change and the owners are still the same.We hope you can revisit us again.Best Wishes from All the Team at Holi and Bhang

Had the King Prawn Sagwalla with mushroom pilau and garlic naan. All excellent. Friendâs Tandoori Cocktail also very tasty - sizzling & plentiful. Food service polite & efficient but could have been a bit more forthcoming with keeping our drinks replenished. Overall good value.

We pre booked a table for 16 and were seated straight away upon arrival. The restaurant was really busy as youâd expect with any good restaurant on a Saturday evening. The service was good and a waiter took our drinks order straight away and they were brought out shortly afterwards. We had pre ordered our meals with it being such a big group, this made it an easy experience with the waiters not having to take orders from a large party. The food was absolutely delicious, the popadoms and pickles etc were as youâd expect. I had the Fish Momo for a starter, it was amazing! I opted for Lamb Vindaloo for my main, it was really hot and very enjoyable. Iâd certainly recommend any curry lovers to give the Capital restaurant a try. Priced as youâd expect, wonderful food and good friendly service.

Booked here for our wedding anniversary meal and pleased weâd booked as the restaurant was full. The staff were very busy but friendly and the service was fantastic. The food was superb, had starters which are very generous as well as delicious, main course couldnât have been better, duck and steak were both really tender and sauces were very tasty. Altogether a fantastic night out, definitely would go back and would highly recommend it
