Empoli (Italian pronunciation: [ˈempoli]) is a town and comune in Tuscany, Italy, about 20 kilometres (12 mi) southwest of Florence, to the south of the Arno in a plain formed by the river. The plain has been usable for agriculture since Roman times. The commune's territory becomes hilly as it departs from the river. Empoli is on the main railway line from Florence to Pisa, and is the point of divergence of a line to Siena. Empoli has an enduring tradition as an agricultural centre. It has given its name to a local variety of artichoke.

Osteria Donna Riccarda is a fine restaurant, with a magical atmosphere in a very nice location.
The menu offer selections of seasonal ingredients, and has options for every palate.
Is not a place for a quick meal, as the service might appear slow, but the dishes are prepared expressed so it takes a bit of a wait, so if you are on a rush this is not the right place to be. But if you want a fine meal in a relaxed environment then you are in the right place.
I suggest to try their stuffed pasta (tortelli) which varies by the seasons.

The place at first sight looked to me a sad large room with little furniture and an internet radio making noise in the background. I was hungry and it was late, so II decided for the "prisoner of war code of conduct" that is provide only name, rank and service number if questioned and select only few healthy choices from the menu.
So I choose the fish fillet and a simple salad...
...but when it was served it was love at the first bite !
And my perception of the place changed dramatically. The balance of taste between the steam-cooked fish and the artichokes was a real piece of art. I sent my first congratulations to the Chef.
Then the mixed salad: very fresh and rich in vegetables came with companion bottles of excellent olive oil and aromatic vinegar.
But my second congrats to the Chef was for the cheese pudding: ONCE AGAIN the combination and balance of taste of cheese and pears sauce was mind-blowing.
Wine: I was poured a very generous glass of local white wine made with vines of san colombano trebbiano & malvasia. Astonishing quality for the price !
Finally I want to mention the very nice service received with my waitress answering all my questions with details and being always present without being pressing. The final touch was the collection of micro-dessert she brought them to my table after I asked for the bill and for free.
So what could improved ? well...let me think...may be just the radio...

If you are looking to experience a true Tuscan meal with locals, enjoying fantastic simple food in a casual setting this should be on your not to miss list. Grab your own place setting, a seat with one of the friendly groups and enjoy either one of the traditional dishes done perfectly like Lampredotto or Tripperia, or if you prefer something more familiar one of the made to order pasta or daily specials. Hamburgeroni is also familiar but with a Tuscan flair. Wine from the local vinyard and of course an expresso with one of the not to miss desserts that will be very difficult to resist. We ate there several times while visiting the area beause the food was authentic and so affordable. Thank you Olivia, Gerardo, Sandro, Lorella, Sarah and Adrianna I Will surely visit if we are fortunate enough to return

I wanted to try a new restaurant and the as always I trusted the review of this web site, so I booked a table for 4 to celebrate the purchase of my new home!
This restaurant opened recently by a restoration of an old country house bringing back the old glow while incorporating some modern details. The staff was cordial, except for the end of the meal where they were purposely (I suppose) trying to get us to notice with some noise while pretending to clean the tables near us, that the restaurant was about to close, we were the last table. We stayed that late because we had really a good time, the company was excellent and the food was simply delightful. We had the mix seafood starter, which consist of a variety of small hot dishes and a big tray of raw goodies from the sea.
We then ordered 4 pasta dishes that were good as well, and we had the Tarte Tatin for dessert.
I will definitely go back hoping they will keep up the good work!

We went there several times. Great and fresh food (try their starters!!), home wine, you can take away the pizza, English-speaking personnel. It's so fantastic that pre-booking of the table is highly recommended. And when you find the house, drive downstairs, the restaurant's entrance is there. The best place we've been in Italy in terms of value for money (circa 45euro for dinner for two, starters, main, dessert, wine, coffee.. are you still thinking???)

The restaurant interior has a glad and a little romantic atmosphere. Elisabetta gives a very professional and friendly service and, first of all the meals are very well prepared. The restaurant Osteria de’Nichi provided consistent top quality during the first 3 visits. It is great that all the delicious dishes are gluten free, including the home baked "coperto" bread and pizza's! And even the best beer, Daura Damm, is available. Family and friends will enjoy the better and affordable food just as much.

My wife and I ate here on our honeymoon. Our Italian is not the best, but we were made very welcome. We were educated on the cuisine and shared wedding photos with the owners. The food was squisito!

Average osteria - small selection, no pizza. Tomato salad was bare tomatoes, bean soup was too spicy for kids, pasta was barely OK. So its tolerable to kill the hunger, but nothing to enjoy

Although we live in Tuscany and enjoy the range of traditional food on offer, from time to time we feel like a change and for that we look for a Chinese meal.Empoli has a large population of chinese residents and a good number of chinese restaurants also. The problem is that most of the restaurants are not up to much.Too frequently we've gone home unimpressed with a heavy stomach. We have now used La Fortuna a number of times and never been disappointed with our meals.Their range on offer is very good and the quality of preparation is excellent. It is always busy so definitely you need to book a table as frequently we've heard people being turned away or having to change to a takeaway, which is still excellent.Friendly staff and reasonably priced, you couldn't ask for more!
