We visited expecting to see ice cream being made but were disappointed when we arrived to one employee and an store empty of customers. To be fair, we visited in lat October so maybe during the busier time of the year there is a better chance to see some action but not a this time. Not very impressed.

Our favorite coffee shop in sister bay. The homemade baked goods are incredible. I had one of the best Americano drinks I've ever had. Place is small but quaint with tables outside as well. Very polite order takers.

We discovered this lovely little coffee house walking through the town. There are a variety of coffees and freshly baked "sweets." The thickly sliced banana bread was moist and tastey - large enough to share. Inside there are three rooms with comfy chairs and tables. In addition, there are a variety of interesting books to browse while enjoying the brew! The staff is friendly and welcoming.

Breakfast buffet is the best ever. This was my first time and will definitely go again this Fall. There was not one thing I can say can be improved. Service and food is very good. Swedish pancakes, cinnamon rolls, pecan rolls and Almond Danish Puff were my favorites. Don't hesitate to take any of the baked goods home. We bought all three pastries from the bakery before going home. All froze very well. Don't miss Grandma's Swedish Bakery!

Hubs & I dined here yesterday while enjoying a 3 day romantic getaway and were very pleasantly surprised at the wonderful meal. We were seated next to a roaring fire which was wonderful on a chilly evening. Our server and all the rest of the staff were very attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. I took two of our server's suggestions for the chef's tomato basil soup (superb!) and the shrimp and grits with goat cheese from Door County creamery. (We had lunch there so we're hip to the yummy goat cheese). Hubs had the bacon apple loin chops with sage stuffing. Delicious! We shared tastes and then I wanted pork chops and hubs was finally convinced grits could be tasty. Unfortunately no room for dessert but we did share a bottle of wine. Pleasantly surprised again to have dinner under $100 even tho we had a bottle of wine. We definitely recommend The Fireside in Door County. PS the chef was involved in the Iron Chef competition in Milwaukee and Green Bay and his specialties from the competition have a medallion next to them on the menu. While several businesses told us they were closing for the season at end of October, Fireside said they are staying open through end of February.

This was a "must" on our Door County visit every time but after our last meals, we are re-evaluating that decision. My Blackened Shrimp over Grits was so piled on with "stuff", that it was trying to be something else than what I experienced a few years ago here and loved! The same was for hubby's pork dish - sauce was so thick and too many flavors all over the place like it was just dumped on to look like a complex dish, very disappointing. Maybe the "small plate" or tapas night might be the way to go for us next time as we have so enjoyed the atmosphere and service here.

Wickman House

Wickman House is located in a historic lodge in Ellison Bay, Door County. Offering sandwiches from Paying tribute to the property's original owners and namesake, this historical landmark was reborn as Wickman House in 2012. The renovation and design of the property are dedicated to restoring its history with an eclectic blend of original decor from the early 1920's. Also true to the property's original purpose: the restaurant's focus is on sustainable agriculture, featuring a menu inspired by fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced from local farms and gardens. Finally, the property's enhanced space strives to be a true gathering place, much like The Ellison Bay Lodge was nearly a century ago. The proprietors, chefs, and staff at Wickman House strive to provide their guests with the ultimate dining experience through professional service and the use of only fresh, sustainable foods. All seafood is humanely harvested and sustainably considered. Nearly all ingredients not arriving from the sea come from local Wisconsin farms, artisans, and growers. All baked goods, desserts, sauces, stocks, and soups are made in house from scratch, just the way the Wickman Family would have wanted.

Some friends recommended this restaurant; we're so glad we took that recommendation. Kindred was our server, and he, along with the rest of the staff, we're as good as any we've ever experienced.

The craft cocktail menu is fabulous and worth exploring. I had the Old Timer, basically an Old Fashioned made with a very smoky mezcal. It was lovely. My wife had a Caipirinha, which was also terrific.

The house-made rolls were delicious. We ordered the deviled eggs, and they were mind-blowing.

I had the Caesar salad, and my wife had the seasonal salad. Both were wonderful.

For my entree, I had the smoked Portobello MLT. It and the accompanying hand-cut fries were delicious. My wife had the daily fish special. Tonight's special was scallops. It had a bunch of different ingredients including pork belly and habañero jam. It was outstanding.

Halfway through the meal my drink was gone, so I thought I'd try another. I ordered the Prita - a margarita that included a bit of peach puree. Yum.

We had no room for dessert, but my wife said the coffee was outstanding, too.

Wickman house is a little more expensive than the better restaurants on the Peninsula, but in our opinion, it was worth every penny. Don't miss it.
