Whether in town for a few days or a few hours of sightseeing, Borders is a must stop! Conveniently located at the dock. this restaurant has the perfect second-floor location for gorgeous river views and watching the daily lives of the locals. - all with a casual, open-air ambiance, and internet access for approximately $1 an hour. Aside from a full coffeehouse menu (trust me - after a few days in country, a full-bodied cappuccino hits the spot!), they offer a wonderful and affordable menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner - all available to go, if you have a boat to catch. The English-speaking owner is a superb chef, offering up the most traditional flavors from across the country. And for the shrimp lovers, you'll definitely want to sample the giant river shrimp - which are the size of small lobsters, and loaded with an unforgettable array of fresh garlic and traditional seasonings. Definitely recommended!

This cafe is located on the Rio San Juan in El Castillo and the town can only be reached by boat. From San Carlos to El Castillo is 2 hours by boat. When you stay at El Castillo cross the brigde Victoria Hotel 50 meters to the raith.
Borders is a lovely little open-air place that serves delicious curries, pasta, and fajitas. The owner is very kind and personable, and made us feel right at home. We visited during low season, which might account for the fact that they only had one kind...MoreMuchas Gracias, los esperamos nuevamente.

We loved this spot and when we make it back to El Castillo we'll make bee line for their micheladas. They were a perfect mix of lime, tomato, spicy, and general umami. The food was awesome (pollo jalapeño!). I really enjoyed the gentleman waiting the tables and his blend of service and friendliness. Just a great spot to eat. Maybe next trip we'll sleep there, too. (We heard good things form another traveler.)

We had two meals from here. The first a delicious dinner of fish fillet cooked in garlic, Marga at Luna del Rio arranged to have delivered to her hotel as it was raining extremely heavily. The second a vegetable pasta lunch, we took at their restaurant located a little way down the main street, there is a two platform structure to the rear with good views over the river. Beer is very cold and prices are good. Can't fault it, we very much enjoyed both of our meals here.

Comodor El Viajero offers decent Nicaraguan food for low prices. There are a lot of good comodores and restaurants in the same price range in El Castillo. Try and like.
