We are using a combination of public transport, ropeways and feet to do part of the pilgrimage to 88 Temples on Shikoku Island. We finisihed our day at Temple 64 (Maegamiji) an to d hunger took over. We googled "cheap eats near us" and were led to Hyoka. It specialises in Chan Buckwheat Noodles. What a great inexpensive find. The interior is very pleasant and while there are some bench style seats these are not the best in the house. Head for the seating with sunken seat wells - good for old Western knees not accustomed to low seating - peruse the menu - we have found that Google Translate (using photo option) is great in Japan. We chose our dishes, pressed the service bell, and with "point and smile" ended up with two bowls of very delicious soup. They were both very, very good. Thoroughly recommended. After you have eaten round out your visit with an Onsen. Walk out of the restaurant and look straight ahead. You will see a sign luring you to the Yunotani Onsen beside a ryokan of the same name. It is an easy 5 minutes walk. Very authentic, locals, and great fun and laughter with (mainly) older Japanese men. Towels are available for hire. The whole experience is inexpensive. If you are short on time you can use the "Foot Onsen" at the entrance for free.A wonderful trio - a Temple, this great Chan noodle restaurant and an Onsen.
