What a welcoming culinary experience this was! We have been in Norway many times, but tonight our first spot in-country was at the hotel in the center of Larvik, where we were looking for a place close by for dinner. Many thanks to our hotel guide, who pointed us to Pica Pica across the street, assuring us that we would be happy and satisfied with dinner there. Wow. Understatement of the year...Dinner was fabulous. Welcoming, personal attention from the chef, recommendations that were spot-on, and the Pica Grande special ("kind of like a tapas dinner") gave us a range of flavors, textures, vegetables and fresh ingredients that together created a magical meal - 4 different plates of food, and a dessert plate. It's not cheap, but I have probably spent more on something that was nowhere near as good as this... Don't forget the Irish Coffee, a specialty of the house, and made me think that I had never really tasted Irish Coffee before today. And don't forget to ask Antonio (the chef) to keep filling the aioli bowl and bread basket - local sour dough bread that was soft and crusty at the same time, flavorfully tart, and aoili that made you just want more and more.Our thanks to Antonio and Victor (chef and maitre de) for their attention, care, and grace in treating us like true guests. We will be back!

This is a lovely relaxed place with good service. The beers were not entirely to our taste which was unfortunate. We also had dinner and the sausages and hamburger were both very good, but the potato wedges were limp and greasy. So not a great rating from us, but I would still recommend it if you like beer.
