Tollboden is situated slightly withdrawn at the pier and appears perhaps less hip than some places there. But if you want a quiet and pleasant place place to sit, and is not dependent on large beer selection or fancy food this might be the place. The selection of beer could have been any better, but they have the most appropriate light types. I ordered traditional Norwegian meatballs with "kålstuing" and cranberries. It was tasty and beautifully presented, with relatively small meatballs. If you are hungry however, the portion is a bit small. We also had a traditional prawn sandwiche. This was crowded with fresh and good shrimps and traditional accessories such as mayonnaise and lemon. Very tasty.

Very good coffee, nice staff and the breakfast baguette was very good. Had also with me out in the forest for two days. Will be back in the summer on my GSXR1000; hopefully we can have a seat outside then.
Was there for lunch and ordered a pie and an omelette. The omelette was clearly homemade and tasted very good with good bread. The pie seemed to come from the freezer and was not as good. Classic salad as an accompaniment to the pie.The coffee, as it was paid extra for, seemed to be from a solution using freeze drying. It did not fall in taste with the female part of the company.

I have been on many occasions to date and really enjoy teh tea, it is loose leaf tea but paced in a dedicated gauze type "teabag" so you get the benefit of fresh leaf tea, without teh hassle of leaves everywhere. They also have a nice range of different teas. Having said all that my wife always has a caffe latte which she tells me is also very nice.

Coffeeshop and lunch place with tasty food and fresh coffee. They also have a large selection of cakes. Unpretentious place with a cozy and warm atmosphere.
This cafe is a lively place on Saturdays, packed with people. Despite that, the place has a relaxed ambience. The food is good for norwegian cafe-standards, and the prices are average. But they need "the little extra" to lift them from an average-rating. Their pre-fabricated pizza-buns is one example. Every place serving pizza should make it from scratch. The so-called famous chili-burger is also OK, but not more (and where is the chili?), and for some reason they serve it in a grand, deep pasta-plate, which makes it impossible to eat with knife and fork. From before, the burger is uneatable with hands. When we are with friends or family visiting a cafe, we want delicate food that is easy to eat without looking rediculous. You have to pick up your drinks yourself at the desk (why?), and the food is served at the table. But the ones who serve do not always know who shall have the food, so they walk around the restaurant saying loudly "who shall have this pizza? And this Chicken-salad?". A little disturbing and definitely unnecessary. The location is close to perfect, and it could have been even better, if the crossroad outside the large windows were turned into a little pedestrians plaza. In this Summer-city, this plaza could have been giving this corner of the town status as "little Italy". Just remove the cars, put up a fountain and a statue of someone important, and then lay down some cobblestones and you're there. I hereby urge the cafes and restaurants in the block to convince the politicians in the town. If Babels Cafe move out in the street in the little plaza during Summer, almost no-one can beat them. Especially if they sharpen their menu, and get some specialities they can be really proud of.
