Great location and good quality accommodation.

We have booked many of our travel groups in at Dive Timor Guest House accommodation - including school groups, university groups, and independent travelers. We always receive great feedback from our travelers about the cleanliness of the rooms and the standard of hospitality and accommodation. The guesthouse has a great pool, is right next to a supermarket, right on the beachfront, and a close to restaurants and bars. It is in a very safe and well-known location. Definitely recommended!

Dili Central Backpackers

Dili Central Backpackers recently relocated and is located in the heart of the CBD. Boasting the best value budget accommodation offering Dorms and Private rooms in Dili with our onsite cafe serving budget priced meals, tour information desk, air-conditioning, lockers, Wi-Fi, fully equipped kitchen, tour information desk, bicycle, car and motorbike hire, tours and friendly hosts. The hostel is housed in a unique building that rose up out of the ashes after the 1999 vote for independence, when Indonesian military violence destroyed most of the country's infrastructure. Used to house staff of the UN Transitional Administration prior to the nations independence in 2002, and remnants of this era can still be seen around the hostel and neighbourhood with fortified mesh security screens and walls topped with razor wire. Large airy verandahs provide great views over the city. This is a great place to meet other travelers and hear about their adventures in a country with very few tourists.

Ok

There was nothing wrong with this place, but I was expecting a little bit more. Overall ambience was average and things looked a little bit runned down. There were only two other travelers staying at this place when I visited. The hostel is a 20 minute walk from the seaport, but centrally located. Free Wi-Fi and free breakfast included.

Basic but functional

Reviewed By danigross88

This really is the most basic of accommodation. It has everything you need and nothing more at a fair price for Dili. We paid $20USD for a double room with aircon. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable enough and the air con worked well. The shared bathrooms were functional. Not particularly pleasant but they did the job. There were a few cockroaches around but that is hard to help in a city like Dili. The family who run the place as friendly and helpful and have a minimart attached to the guesthouse. It is certainly not luxury but it is right for the price.

New place, but poor service

Reviewed By Øystein B

I am really tempted to give this place a "poor"-review, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt since they are still pretty new and probably have some trouble to get things running properly. Throughout our stay at The Cove we felt kind of awkward. One of the main reasons for this is that we did not feel included and were very rarely spoken to by the staff or managers. In a big hostel, this would not be a problem. However, The Cove is not a big hostel. Often were the only people staying there. So when the staff had dinner together in the evenings in the communal area (almost a daily occurence) it was not that fun to sit alone on the table next to them and feel that you interupted them when you wanted to order. The other main reason was the service from the head manager. She repeatedly said she would give us info about things to do and see, and check availability of different activities, but this was constantly postponed. We had planned to return to The Cove because of the excellent location after a trip to Jacko Island, but ended up going to another hotel because we felt that we were too bothersome for the staff. In addition: allthough the place is pretty new, the material they use for building and the quality of the carpentry seems to be pretty bad and I would not be surprised if this place feels very run down in just a few years time. Also, the high internet fee is almost worth a "poor" review in itself. On a more positive note the location next to the beach is great and the price of a dorm bed is hard to compete with in Dili. The food is not bad. It has to be said though that some of the staff there was outstanding and clearly went out of their way to help us (i.e printing tickets and letting us check our email for free). We also understand that we cannot expect the same service in Dili as in Bali because of it's past, but we did not experience to feel like a burden like at the cove anywhere else in Dili or Timor-Leste.

Might have seen better days

Reviewed By Alex M

I chose Hostel daTerre mainly because it's centrally located and especially because of the Tripadvisor recommendations. To be honest I really can't understand some of the really positive remarks. First the people running it. In many comments it was pointed out that they were especially friendly and helpful. Some of them were some weren't. To me they appeared more or less reluctant or bored. I had a room in the main building. The room itself was good enough for sleeping but looked a bit run down. Some paint might have done miracles. Shared bathroom was next door. Though I had the impression that it was used by too many people as it was blocked pretty often. If you have shared bathrooms relation between number of bathrooms and guests should fit. Wifi didn't work. Not a big problem as you can buy a SIM card for a few dollars. But they shouldn't state that they have free wifi if it hadn't work for ages. Tried the dinner they offered once. Food was nice and for $5 pretty good value. I know that Timor Leste is quite expensive but in no other country in South East Asia would you end up paying that much for a place like this. Maybe the place deserved good recommendations some time ago. But to me it looks a bit run down, people working there don't seem to be over enthusiastic and they just rely on their reputation.
