Stopped in mid afternoon for coffee/tea and some sweets. Waitress was very personable and introduced us to owner when she learned that we were visiting areas where our ancestors had come from (Noord Sleen being one in particular). Letty did some research for us and then took us to a neighbor's house where we were welcomed and obtained more information. Restaurant is very cozy - we wish we had more time to enjoy a full meal here - maybe on our next visit.

Bij Sib is quite a new restaurant in Emmen. We went there for dinner with the family, and although the food is really really good, there are definitely a few things that can be improved. For example, it took quite a while before someone came to take our order for drinks, the same happened with the food. On top of this, we had to wait long before we received our food. It wasn't possible to order tap water (only mineral water, which we, of course, had to pay for). The menu was not really readable, and it looked like some random dishes were put on the menu, without thinking of an overall theme. The fact that the food was really good and the staff was very friendly definitely improved our experience. Therefore, I hope that the things described above will be taken into account and hopefully improved by the restaurant, because they have the potential to become one of the better restaurants of Emmen!

Well, the title says a lot, doesn't it. Perhaps I'm being a bit negative, but after visiting them 3 times I keep getting the feeling that I should not come again. One time I was there I requested that I would not like a scoop of chocolate ice cream in my trio of ice, but rather have an extra vanilla instead.. I was gobsmacked when they told me that I could only order what the menu said !.. ( still can't get my head around that ) Last time I had no choice as the other restaurants were fully booked, so we just sat there outside, waiting for someone to come by.. ....... which took a while... and when someone came, we asked for the menu, ............ which never came, so we collected it ourselves. and after reading that for a kids menu under 12 y.o. the child would have to prove it by an ID, that's when I stood up and went. Perhaps its just me.. ( but no, I guess its just them )

Having been here a few times, I was surprised that the restaurant was listed no. 22 of restaurants in Emmen when It could be a lot better then that. Almost all ingredients are there, but the right recipe has not been found yet. Location is not bad, and the place has a very nice feel to it. We were sitting outside in a spacious aria at the front of the restaurant. Drinks were served quickly. So, the setting was there. But what was missing ? Hmm perhaps that the food was just good, nothing special. Meat ( Rib Roast ) a bit dry, and the tomato soup was almost a diluted Pasta sauce. Too creamy and cheesy. but all in all, not bad at all. The service was kind and helpful but during dinner they left the table unattended for too long of periods. I guess the place just needs a bit more professionalism. Paying a bit more attention to details. Taking away used plates quicker, and come by a bit more often to check for drinks. So, could be better, but 22nd is certainly not deserved !

This restaurant is located in a quite remote area in a small village, Valthe. It is an old farm converted to a restaurant. The ambience is accordingly, but in a stylish way. The tables are centred around a big fireplace, where guests are welcomed with an aperitif. In the surrounding area, it is the only restaurant on a more culinary level, being listed in the Michelin guideThe restaurant works without a written menu. Instead, you only decide how many courses (3-8), what you like and dislike and a menu is created for you. We went for 6 courses and informed the kitchen we wanted to drink a glass of white and a bottle of red wine and the menu was adjusted accordingly. We had 2 fish courses (one with shell fish), 2 meat courses including the main, cheese and a desert. The wine list is quite extensive, with wines from may countries.
