Much wanted return after the recent pandemic. Madame Roche charming as ever and with Paul successfully survived a tough period of closure due to Covid. Rooms lovely as ever although the garden area needs a little TLC as more overgrown as trees mature making rooms darker than usual. The restaurant was busy and food excellent as always. However this time special mention of her new staff …..two delightful young girls who were personable and clearly very well trained and the sommelier, a young man recently settled in France …..all were engaging and a credit to Madame who oversees the floor with calme and precision. The Auberge is reasonably priced for rooms but dinner with wine on the pricey side but lots of choice including a substantial vegetarian selection. A downside is breakfast. H lice very restrict and frankly expensive. Outside the hotel three minutes drive is a huge supermache with an excellent restaurant plus if needed a McDonalds! Also cheap fuel. Consider a visit to the Bio Parc zoo although during this visit light on animals but setting super! Great couple of day three hours from the ferry ….awaiting our next visit ….book direct for best prices!

The owners were very welcoming but the room we had was very dated and dark. There was a pool but not to swim in it was empty and looked like it had been for a long time, the gardens were very run down. It was extremely hard to find.

Stay on this beautiful rustic chic 17th Century Former Wine Estate surrounded by vineyards. Experience the peace and tranquility of the gardens, walk or take a bike ride in the local vineyards. 4 unique rooms all with their own character and charm. Close to Saumur, Angers, Chinon, Bourgeuil, Savennieres and many of the Loire Chateaux. Local wineries available for tastings and vineyard tours. A special wine tasting supper is available at La Grande Maison. Wine and Boat Tours can also be arranged if booked in advance of your stay.
La Grande Maison is an old Manor House with outbuildings converted to individual rooms situated deep in the Loire Valley surrounded by vineyards. The location and setting is completely rural with no TV or radio available in individual rooms to disturb the absolute tranquility. Our spacious room was one of the individual outbuildings with a very comfortable bed and en suite shower room. The furnishings are rustic, even quirky, but completely functional, comfortable and clean. There is a covered porch outside the front door with a coffee table and chairs. Outside there is a further table and chairs together with two wooden ‘feet up’ chairs all allocated to our room. The owners, Micaela and Sue, provide hospitality second to none. They seemed to anticipate our every need and produced delicious breakfasts and a superb dinner with excellent Loire Valley wines. Their knowledge of the latter is considerable and they will lead you on very interesting, informative wine tours if requested in advance. Our ‘package’ even included being chauffeured out to a well chosen restaurant for dinner and again at our request on the second evening. Nothing was too much trouble for Sue and Micaela and, for a quiet ‘chill out’ stay in the rural wine loving Loire Valley, we cannot recommend La Grande Maison highly enough.

This hotel was immaculate with comfortable rooms . Staff were friendly and evening meal excellent . Unfortunately the lovely breakfast which we hoped for based on the evening meal , was a let down with a very basic offering and luke warm coffee . However would return another time but probably opt out of the breakfast which is extra .

We intended to stay at this hotel but a family emergency meant we had to change our plans. But I had been so captivated by the other reviews here that I was determined to visit at least for lunch. The dining-room was empty when we arrived midweek but pretty soon a few other tables became occupied. The hotel itself is well-kept but the décor is decidedly of another time and quite charming. The waiter and lady proprietor were friendly - we had a good chat with the waiter once he realised it would be in French - and the food very good. I had mushrooms topped with a herby sauce full of snails as a starter (my wife had soup) and we both had magret de canard for our main course. The portions were substantial. The hotel does not attempt to cater for a bland international taste: the food we had was defiantly French and all the better for being so.

Roulotte gîte for 4 people and guest room for 3 people on a landscaped park in the countryside with indoor and heated swimming pool from April to October
Shush! Don't tell anyone else about this beautiful, child friendly and tranquil location! We stayed for 3 memorable nights in August 2013, and will be back for more. You will not be disappointed….....

We stayed here recently for a weekend for the second time, as we were attending a wedding party and cannot fault our experience. From the warm welcome Marie gave us after our extremely long journey, to the comfortable accommodation and delicious breakfasts we had a marvellous base to enjoy the wedding weekend. I'd also like to thank Marie for her kindness and concern as I was taken ill during our stay. We hope it won't be another 8 years before we return.
