Y Meirionnydd Townhouse is a great restaurant and bar in the centre of Dolgellau. What was the original old County jailhouse has been skilfully converted into a contemporary, stylish and yet cosy restaurant serving traditional British dishes with a Welsh
What a delightful meal and whole experience we had eating here. The two staff on duty were superb at their job, the perfect hosts and advisors. They had the natural, relaxed and friendly skills which showed their considerable experience and enjoyment of their jobs. The food was excellent too. My Summer Pea Soup was light and delicious and gave me inspiration for my own cooking. My wife's Smoked Salmon with yoghurt and blinis was very much enjoyed. We both had the Rump of Lamb with Potato Rosti, cooked precisely to meet our very different tastes. Beautiful Lamb, perfectly flavoured. Puddings were fine but the whole meal was a very enjoyable event.

We also went using the Travelzoo voucher which was excellent value. Our room was immaculate and we liked the fact that one of the members of staff giving us a tour of the reception rooms. We found everyone very friendly and helpful and loved the extensive gardens and wonderful views. Our meal which was part of the Travelzoo deal could not be faulted and we thought the wine etc was very reasonably priced for a 4 star hotel.Reading a previous review, when we visited the other guests were quite chatty so it just depends who the clientele are when you stay.Would definitely return.

Since I only live locally, I cannot justify a stay at Ffynnon, but after realising that they do evening meals for non residents, I decided to try it out.I booked Ffynnon for a special meal to celebrate St Dwynwen night (the Welsh equivalent of St Valentine) and my wife and I were certainly not disappointed. Since Ffynnon is a boutique hotel and meals for non residents are pre booked only, the whole experience was very personal. I was contacted after my booking asking if we had any special dietary requirements, and on arrival we were shown into the lounge to be served drinks and an appetiser besides an open fire. When we moved into the dining room there was only one other couple present, and the service was attentive but not overwhelming. The food was of a very high standard, and certainly lived up to the location. Would definitely recommend as one of the best, if not the best fine dining establishments in the area. Perfect for a special occasion.

Awesome is probably an understatement for the description of the food in this restaurant. They have a new Chef and he certainly knows his craft. Not only was my fillet steak cooked to perfection the presentation was impressive. The waitress was also outstanding and I can see that this restaurant will rocket in popularity so book your table to ensure that you are not disappointed.
