Things to do in Dien Bien Phu

We are the only one and modest vegetarian restaurant and cafe in Dien Bien Phu. We've changed the location recently which may cause you some inconvenience. We are all sorry for that. Yen Ninh is now located in a small lane, about 80 m from the main road (
I've been cycling through Vietnam for 7 weeks, eating the local foods and I have to say that this has been my favourite meal. I'm not vegetarian but do appreciate the greater flavours that go into vegetarian food. I had spring rolls, wrapped in fine rice noodles rather than paper and a sweet & sour pork ribs (substitute) and they were delicious. I've arranged to go back in the morning for breakfast. You won't stumble on this restaurant by walking the streets but it's just a short walk from the central road. They have an English menu, I would thoroughly recommend this place.
I try not to be negative or too judgemental when reviewing.... but I am afraid it was a struggle to find much to cheer about at this place. Staff highly untrained (not their fault/paid accordingly) ..... we had to ask for everything salt/pepper/soy (no salt and pepper shaker, served on a ting finger plate .... msg instead of sea salt) ....... the music was so loud enjoying a conversation was impossible....... and the food was overpriced for what it was and totally lacked presentation ...... nothing matched the menu photo. Example: French Fries ... pre cooked frozen potatoes, not fresh. Garden salad ... onion/cucumber/carrot/chile .... (no lettuce or tomato). No glasses were offered with the beer or coke ...... to get any service at all was difficult. Similarly .. the almost total lack of english was a surprise ... given it is a very expensive resort. Most tragic of all to me was the excessive use of timber in the design ....... the restaurant itself would have taken an entire rainforest to deck it out. ....... huge ancient trees make up giant bench tables and uncomfortable stools and most of the buildings. An entire ecosystem would have been decimated and a valley denuded just in the name of tourism. It was my first and last visit.
this relatively new restaurant is very popular ⦠not just for the authentic Black Thai food .. but also for the ethnic cultural experience.
