Reviews on American food in New Castle, Delaware, United States. New Castle, Delaware, "the first capital of the first state," was founded in 1651. Having been home to Native Americans, the Dutch, and the British, New Castle truly is a "uniquely American place." The Amstel House is a Georgian mansion dating back to 1730. The Dutch House has survived from an even earlier period, featuring furnishings from the 17th century. With ancient graveyards, town greens, old churches and traditional English gardens, New Castle brings history alive.

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary by having dinner in the Green Room on May 25th. The meal, service, and ambiance of the restaurant was outstanding and is the epitome of Fine Dining. The food was great, as we expected, and the service was equally good, despite the restaurant being busy and two other large events (a wedding reception and a prom) being held in the DuPont Hotel at the same time.My wife started with the Heirloom Tomato Cream soup, the Baby Kale and Spring Mix salad, and for her entree she had the 12 oz Ribeye with Truffle butter. She said everything was delicious but especially liked the Heirloom Tomato Cream soup. The Ribeye was cooked perfectly and we took home over half of it because it was so large. I started with the Grilled Jumbo Shrimp (2 shrimp and a scallop over a corn-bacon creama), and had the New Zealand Rack of Lamb for my entree. The lamb came with vegetables while my wife ordered the mushrooms as her side. For desert, we ordered the Bananas Foster for 2, which was prepared table-side. Since it was our anniversary, we were also presented with a small chocolate cake.To add to the ambiance of the beautiful restaurant, there was a gentleman playing a piano throughout the dinner service, and for the first hour or so he was accompanied by a retired Soldier in his dress uniform playing the flute, probably in honor of Memorial Day. All-in-all, it was an elegant and memorable way to celebrate our anniversary. I would highly recommend the Green Room for dinner.

This is a great place for lunch or dinner in the city of Wilmingtonâs Little Italy area. This is not an upscale dining area but a family style restaurant that reminds you of being in someoneâs dining room. The sauce is delicious. Try the wedding soup and cheese raviolis!

We had a great dining experience. The service and food were exemplary. The list of wines available by the glass is extraordinary. We chose the prix fixe menu and weren't disappointed. We both started with the lamb carpaccio, which was followed by the capellini carbonara second course, and a seared scallop entree. Desserts included a sorbet and a cheese plate. Everything was perfectly prepared and delicious. This place gets extra credit (not that they need it) for extra touches and attention to detail. For example, I had mentioned to our server (Amy) that I was torn between the carpaccio and an asparagus starter. I ended up ordering the carpaccio, and to my surprise, she delivered both. Amy was clearly knowledgeable about all of the menu items and wine offerings. Very impressive. Our expectations were definitely exceeded.

We recently visited the Riverfront and stopped into Iron Hill for lunch with our grand-daughter. We were seated upstairs where we had a great view of the river. We placed our orders and relaxed. I ordered the Iron Hill Chicken Wings. They were tasty and filling. Haley was our server and she did a great job.

As a long time fan of Harryâs Seafood Grill, I was excited to return despite the name change. Our seats on the riverfront patio were lovely at dusk and service was as good as always. Unfortunately, the food was inconsistent. The raw oysters were cold and flavorful, though not well shucked. The beet salad was probably the highlight of my meal. Smoked Marcona almonds added wonderful texture and taste while the whipped lemon ricotta, paired with the beets and greens, was delicious. Dishes that had raw fish, however, were poorly executed. Knife skills for the tuna tartare and sashimi seemed lacking. The cuts were rough and varied too much in size. I did not find either dish enjoyable and I typically adore raw fish. Thankfully the drinks were cold and good. I doubt we will return.

You never can tell about a historic restaurant. Some rely on the historic draw to get diners in the door and fall short on the food quality, but my wife and I were surprised how good the food was. We started with the wild mushroom flatbread. Their version of wild mushrooms is vastly different than mine. These were merely white mushrooms but were pretty good with the garlic oil and bread. My wife ordered the shepherds pie and boy were we glad we didn't order any other entrees. The pie was huge and delicious. The gravy was poured over a mound of rich beef and lots of mashed potatoes. The gravy tasted like the real-deal homemade overnight stock type of gravy. We couldn't quite finish the whole thing and still have room for dessert. Our waitress Shannon was friendly and efficient. Parking was free and easy, though I bet somedays it could be hard to find a parking spot nearby. The only thing we didn't like was they bring water to the table without asking if we wanted plastic straws. It would be nice to at least ask first since 500,000,000 straws thrown away each day in the US is way too much! We'd definitely like to give it another try in the fall.

On a return bus excursion from Virginia Beach back to New York we were accommodated quickly and competently by the staff. Our choice of entrees made for a nice lunch stop. All food was prepared and presented beautifully. My wife and I had the crab cake and our tossed salad with the Maple Vinagarette dressing was very tasty. The wait staff was extremely busy and very receptive to the many requests for drinks too. KUDOS to The Big Fish Grill on the Riverfront.Thank you for a wonderful review! Febyâs has always been our go to restaurant to celebrate special occasions for our family or when out of town guests visit. We also go to Febyâs when we just want a delicious meal. Our childhood friends visited from Connecticut Labor Day weekend and did not stop raving about the food and the service. Once again Febyâs lived up to our rave reviews.

A group of us were looking for a place to grab something for lunch while walking in Wilmington. So glad we found La Fia. Great little place, great food and servers were so nice and accommodating. We had limited time as we were on a lunch break from jury duty so our food came pretty quick and we were on our way. Portions were huge and the menu offered something for all of us.

We completely enjoyed the dining experience - from the warm welcome upon entering the venue to the prompt, attentive service. Some of the outstanding dishes we consumed include the shrimp scampi appetizer, the Dover sole special, the seared scallops, the Pappardelle Bolognese, and the dessert molten chocolate cake and a special ice cream. The restaurant is somewhat small inside, but even with almost every table occupied, is was not noisy, and our service was just excellent. I highly recommend this place!
