Deer Lodge is a city in and the county seat of Powell County, Montana, United States. The population was 3,111 at the 2010 census. The city is perhaps best known as the home of the Montana State Prison, a major local employer. The Montana State Hospital in Warm Springs, and former state tuberculosis sanitarium in nearby Galen are the result of the power the western part of the state held over Montana at statehood due to the copper and mineral wealth in that area. Deer Lodge was also once an important railroad town, serving as a division headquarters for the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad ("the Milwaukee Road") before the railroad's local abandonment in 1980.

So a friend from Bozeman turned me on to them and there in walking distance from where I live in Deer Lodge. sad but true.
Pasty's are a part of Montana history, and you fall into different category's and personal taste. but for me its the pastry its got to be flaky and there's is. Get a case keep in the freezer and makes a Great Gift! o and a case comes with gravy.
and there donuts are fresh to, you can go in the morning and I have a feel you would know the town news in a few minutes.

My GPS once again provided us with a variety of options as we searched for lunch in Deer Lodge, Montana. When I saw 'Yak Yak's' I figured that this was most likely someones idea of fun. And it was! Always on the look out for 'mom and pops' restaurants, this was surely such. We enjoyed our taco salad, latte and a brownie for dessert. The service and friendliness of the employees was exceptional! This was even more noticed as they served a scheduled tour bus with over 30 customers. Though not everyone's choice for a quite lunch, we were impressed with their professional care and service, plus we were able to enjoy and share each others travel stories with these guest.

This is definitely a locals place. The food was great, however I don’t enjoy paying a moderately to high price for a dinner only to have young children literally running around in the restaurant. Unfortunately, that was the situation I encountered at the Broken Arrow. Worse yet, it was apparent that this large family of unsupervised kids was that of an employee.
Management didn’t do/say anything to the family or apologize to guests who were annoyed.

Neat setting...the lodge is a great place to grab lunch. Our family had the Lochsa, Monster, and Mushroom Swiss burgers, chicken strips, and Baja Fish Wrap. All of them were very good and large in size. This was an excellent meal. If you are traveling highway 12 through this parts of the woods I recommend you stop in here for a great meal.

406 bistro is currently under construction! Please stay tuned for all our new and exciting adventures in the near future! Grand Opening coming soon!
We stumbled onto this new cafe and bakery while traveling I-90 in Western Montana. The bistro opened in March 2016 and features a wide assortment of baked goods, breakfast items, homemade soup of the day, made-to-order salads and sandwiches, and espresso drinks. Before we even ordered, we were offered samples of pound cake, huckleberry scones, and warm sourdough bread. We sampled German chocolate cake with chocolate ganache after our lunch of a wonderful cream of tomato soup, tossed salad, and a Turkey sandwich piled high with our selection of fixings. The baked goods are made with butter churned in the bistro, made from cream from local cows. We left with a loaf of tomato dill bread, a huckleberry scone, and a coconut muffin. The scone is one of the best I've tasted. Baked goods include a variety of breads, rolls, scones, muffins, pies, and assorted pasties. Don't miss this place! Prices are very reasonable and service was prompt and cheerful.

We've eaten at a lot of Thai Restaurants, and this was our least pleasant experience. The wait staff was attentive and helpful, but the food was not good. The fried rice was fine, but the Pad Thai and other items we ordered were not enjoyable. Sorry but I cannot recommend this restaurant for Thai food, though they seemed to do better with the Chinese menu items.

Staff at this restaurant boasts that they have been in business 47 years but the restaurant and staff aren't aging well. The carpets are filthy, and may be original, and the staff is no hurry to welcome or serve customers. We seated ourselves and went back for menus because no one brought us one. Then we got the surly waitress who asked if we knew what we wanted. She lightened up after a while but that was twenty minutes too long.
They offer home made soups and claim to have the best tomato in the state, and it was good as was the split pea. The BLT was mediocre and the grilled cheese was barely melted.

This is the best place to eat lunch in Deer Lodge. I know you are questioning hospital food, but their food is fresh and they have a great selection of delicious food. They have an actual chef who oversees the café. The food is really good and they have a menu online to check out what they have to offer. Their hours are 7 AM to 4 PM.

We ordered delivery pizza. They did a good job. It was consistent with pizza hut in any other location, which is what one expects when they order from a franchised restaurant. The delivery was quick, and the ease of checkout (prepaid via credit card) was seamless. I would recommend this resturant for anyone wanting pizza in Deer Lodge.

Wonderful owner, interesting Mexican food. She had three salsas with the chips. A pineapple salsa, a cranberry salsa, and traditional salsa. She brings a bowl of each so that you can try all, and offers them for sale as well. All three were way beyond expectations. The food was excellent and served quickly. Great place for dinner. I highly recommend!
