De Rijp is a village and former island in the Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Alkmaar, and lies about 10 km northwest of Purmerend, between the Schermer and the Beemster polders. Before the poldering of the lakes surrounding it, De Rijp was famous for its herring industry. Today it is known for its characteristic rijksmonuments, which include some of the oldest wooden houses of North Holland.

My wife and I traveled to Alkmaar and had dinner in a lovely Scottish restaurant with a huge selection of whisky. We both decided to have the "surprise" three course meal with whisky accompaniment. What a great choice! We started with a terrine and a whisky made for the twenty fifth anniversary of The Hielander and it was the best of the three. For our main course we had beef from a highlander cow and Haggis. The beef was delicious and so was the Haggis. They make their own Haggis at the restaurant and it was great! The dessert was a mixture of berries, oatmeal and cream. What an incredible meal and I believe it was the owners, husband and wife, that served us and they were awesome. He explained each whisky and the meals perfectly and enhanced our visit. The ambience was lovely. They really created a lovely Scottish pub in North Holland. If you find yourselves in Alkmaar, like we did, you will have a spectacular meal and a wonderful time at The Hielander.

I took my children and their partners here for a Christmas do on December 22nd. We ordered the Proeverij Menu consisting of 5 courses of small portions of food (Euro 19.95 each) for all of us. The food was very nice, the service excellent and the wine that we bought in addition was good and not too expensive. All and all a very pleasant experience.

We love Greek food and also think it important that in addition to the quality of the food that the people are just as nice as in Greece. Kriti is a restaurant that really give that Greek feeling. The food is good and affordable, the staff is super friendly and always cheerful and humorous. You feel that this restaurant has a heart and soul, because if you walk in you are just in a different world. Erol, Ali Kerem, Teena always give you that warm feeling and are always ready for their guests. For us this is one of the best Greek restaurants in the region.

It's easy. You walk up to the counter and you order fries. You can order from a selection of toppings, such as mayonaise (hey, it's Dutch!) and you get what you need: perfectly cooked, golden brown fries, the way they should be.
This is by far the best place in the area to get the fries. No Seating, no fancy restaurant, just a paper bag with fries in them. What more could you want?

We visit De Rijp frequently, very friendly authentic village on a short distance of Amsterdam. A bit hungry we had chosen tis time restaurant Oudejans, nice Terrace in the sun. We ordered a salad Nicoise and a Fish saled, both were very good.
Very friendly service.

Built in a 19th century fort, respectfully restored and creatively improved, this restaurant, hotel and spa is the ideal getaway from busy city life in Amsterdam. The ultra-modern spa facility is one of the best in the country, and has spacious outdoor facilities with baths and saunas. The treatments are delightful and the personnel are skilled and courteous. The menu in both the formal restaurant and the spacious spa lounge are based on local ingredients and are of very high quality and creativity. When the weather is good, the outdoor Terrace on the restaurant side is quickly becoming the place to be. We feel blessed to only live 10 minutes away and plan to spend many days and nights there over the coming years!

We had the special 'Menu Anniversario’, that they serve on Wednesday evening and Sunday afternoon: 8 dishes including all the drinks for 45 Euro's. As we were with about 13 people, we got the 'private dining room' in the back (de Druivenkamer). It was very busy when we arrived, which is always a good sign. The food was excellent too; we had several people with dietary requirements and that was not a problem at all. I liked the smoked fish we had as the first course and the risotto was also very good and still had a bite. But actually all of the dishes were good and well prepared. The evening was graced by a singer with a guitar who came in to the room twice and sang a couple of songs. I would recommend this place!

Situated near lake Uitgeest, Schippersrijk is a nice restaurant decorated with boat and naval attributes. The bigger part of the restaurant has glass walls, what gives you a nice view on the lake and nearby marina. The staff is friendly and the food spot on. If the weather is fine, outside Seating is lovely though sometimes a little windy.
