Nestled along a natural harbor on the Indian Ocean, Dar es Salaam is a multicultural city, home to African Tanzanians, Arabic and South Asian communities, British and German expatriates, Catholics, Lutherans and Muslims. This diversity in people is reflected in the culture: the city boasts international cuisine ranging from traditional Tanzanian barbecue and Zanzibari food to Thai, Chinese and American restaurants. Its vibrant music scene has witnessed a rise in Bongo Flava, a form of hip hop.

A beautiful place, loved the beach view restaurant. Enjoyed some finger licking chicken wings. The room was very clean and spacious including the large bathroom. It was value for money. The staff at the reception were warm and helpful to say the least

You'll love our location. Right in the heart of Tanzania's capital city, with views of Dar es Salaam Harbour and close to the Central Business District. The nearby Ferry Terminal to Zanzibar as well as the National Museum are waiting for you.
as a chef by profession for the last three decades I am always on the hunt for great places to eat. I took a friend there for lunch and was not dissapointed. they have a buffet style restuarant on the second floor which is beautifully appointed and well laid out. the choices on the buffet were varied and plentiful. the starters and dessert section in particular were beautifully presented and it was a struggle to not want to taste just everything I saw. what i did choose was very tasty indeed. I met the exec chef who very clearly in is control of his kitchen and was doing the rounds on the buffet checking standards and chatting with guests. I also chatted with some of the kitchen trainees as they bustled about refilling the cleaning around the buffet stations. they all seemed so happy to be there and proud of thier work which is a sign of a happy kitchen brigade. Kudos to thier team. Based jut on this one lunch experience i intend to return to stay in the hotel itself. F&B service was profesional and friendly and very attentive. Security is tight which was nice to see.

I only spent one night at the Protea, but I have every intention of returning. The staff - from the reception, to the kitchen, to the bellhops were the most genuinely warm, personable and helpful I have encountered. The hotel itself is charming in all its Old World detail, from the Tiffany lamps to the vintage telephones in every room. The restaurant was superb, and room service was swift. There was no hesitation to bend over backwards for any request - a slightly later checkout, printing a document - I was met with positivity and warmth at every encounter. A wonderful team, at a beautiful property, in a great location for seeing Dar Es Salaam.

We had minor problems regarding to room availability in Sea Cliff Zanzibar. While the other service remained fantastics. Nice view, clean room, reasonable fee, buffet serves and the night live band all are amazing. Thanks and we will miss you.

Mediterraneo Hotel and Restaurant is a unique resort style hotel located by the Indian Ocean in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. Situated close to the commercial centre of Dar es Salaam with attractive gardens overlooking the Indian Ocean.
Beautiful gardens and views of the sea! It's far from the airport, so not a great option if you're just in town for a night, but whenever I'm in Dar for more than the night, this is where I stay. There's a little restaurant next door with good Negroni's and tapas.

We came here with our 2 young kids for a quick weekend trip from Dar. When we arrived in the evening, there was a wedding party going on. We wanted to eat at the restaurant, but the music was far too loud so we ate dinner a few minutes drive away. The music went on till after 10pm. The bigger issue was the adjoining room. We booked a family room, and could clearly hear everything from the room next door. As a result, we could not sleep well. Otherwise the resort is nice. The pool and beach were convenient, and there is a playground area for the kids. Our breakfast was pleasant and the restaurant staff were friendly.
