Los Hornitos de Curacavi

Reviewed By Caius P - Santiago, Chile

If you want traditional Chilean food in a rustic environment outside Santiago, and hosts serving you in traditional country-side "Huaso" costumes, you must visit this place. Not only you will have traditional home-type country style chulean food, but you also have traditional Chilean music in a nice and unpretentious place. Nothing fancy about this place, but the whole experience was very nice. We will come back! I give it 5 stars as it well exceeded my expectations! Muchísimas Gracias!!!!

El Quillay

Reviewed By portigosa - Santiago, Chile

If you are travelling from the coast back to Santiago on the R 68 and your tummy is rumbling, El Quillay is definitely somewhere you’ll want to stop. This old venerable highway resto has been around since the 70s, and used to be known for its gigantic adobe oven out front (apparently now in the back), where freshly baked empanadas would be served piping hot. Once you make it out of the first tunnel, turn on your first right, and another quick right and you’re in the parking lot. The place is old-style Chilean resto, and it has an area that sells Chilean sweets and other neat condiments. We were there for the food, which gladly did not stray from the traditional. The empanadas are as they’ve always been, excellent crust, nice “pino” (beef chuck, onions, one olive, chunk of egg, raisins). Exquisite. We also had “cazuela de pollo”, which is a Chilean chicken stew with squash, potatoes, green and red pepper, carrots, string beans, rice and a sprinkling of parsley. A massive, ample serving, for the unfearful appetite only. The chicken breast was almost the size of two fists. The other dish was “pastel de choclo”, or corn pie, of which there are several variations in latin America. The Chilean version has a type of coarse corn pureé covering a beef and chicken layer below, with a few raisins thrown in, which is baked in a ceramic bowl until the top is crispy. Chileans often eat it with a sprinkling of sugar on top. Overall the meals are very worthy here, a tad expensive but not wallet-busting; the adjunct pictures should do the talking. Service is friendly if a little languid. You may not come to love this place, but it’s almost guaranteed you will not hate it. I will definitely be returning (again) to El Quillay.

So on a business trip we ended up stopping here for a quick bite to eat and I loved it! Food was amazing, lots of options on the menu and the prices were definitely good because the portions were huge! Great service and lovely typical Chilean ambiance! I definitely recommend it to anyone!

Hosteria Antumapu

Reviewed By weirdfish13 - Santiago Metropolitan Region, Chile

The restaurant is lovely and surprisingly less costly than more casual-looking places nearby like Millahue. The menu is typical Chilean (sandwiches, meat plates, salads, omelettes, egg pailas), but sadly there are no fish options. The service is always a little slow; but that's part of the experience. You step out of time a little in this Hosteria- where waiters wear red coats like in an old-fashioned hotel restaurant. They are also mostly mature in age- above 50, polite, and taking their time. Service is professional though, and friendly enough but not too much. The place is cool in summer and warm in winter, basically just right (and so important!)

Kura Restoran

Reviewed By Cristian M - Santiago, Chile

Except for a very creative and excellent fresh abalone dish with parsley mayonnaise to start with, the rest of the food can be described as very Chilean but mostly re-heated on the moment so it tended to be dry and relatively average quality. The corn cake, though, was very tasty and met my wife´s expectations. Service by the owner was excellent if a bit rushed due to lack of waiters. Total bill for 4 without alcohol was about US$90.tip included -- not a big bang for your buck...
