Reviews on Healthy food in Rethymnon, Crete, Greece. Rethymnon is one of the most well-preserved Venetian old towns on the island of Crete. Its 16th-century buildings are stunning examples of ancient architecture, and the monolithic Fortezza reflects both European and Moorish influences. Explore the magical waterfalls, rock formations, and ‘"cave church" of Saint Anthony Gorge before taking a pleasant evening stroll along the colorful Venetian Harbor. Relax in a taverna over a plate of Cretan meze, like fresh feta drizzled with local olive oil.

A roustic fine dinning restaurant, in the heart of the historical center of Rethymno, settled in a gorgeous Cretan mansion of the 15th century. Increadible lush courtyard (Avli in Greek), impressive wine cellar (Enoteca), unique flair and authentic Cretan
Such a shame this restaurant was recommended to us. So we made the effort. To visit We was acknowledged by the young woman who was seating people. We were next to be seated when another group said hello having been there before. She then completely ignored us and seated the group. This simple rudeness and bad customer service completely but us off. Iâm sure if she said to the group let me seat this couple first they would have completely understood and she would have achieved two lots of happy dinners... we had a nice meal at the adjacent restaurant Pigadi!!! Dear goodeysussexAlthough none of the staff can't remember the described incident, we would like to apologize for it. We are sorry for any inconvenient feelings were unwillingly created! Our principle is to treat equally our guests and pay all our best, to make them happy. We regret when not possible. As both our hostesses are kind, polite, caring and loving persons, we are very sad to read that you felt underestimated. We believe it was an unlucky moment, a miscommunication. What a pity you have left the restaurant and we didn't have the chance to make up your mood! Please consider that daily, many people enter our magnificent courtyard. Some would like to admire the beauty of the place and take photos; others to make reservations for next days and stroll around and others to dine with having or not reserved. Sometimes it's difficult to assist everyone at the same moment, but we are taking great pride and pleasure in their interest. It's an honour that Avli is well-known not only as an excellent restaurant but also as one of the city's highlights! All visitors are very welcome, no matters if having dinner or not. Hostesses are discreet and welcoming. They never push or harry people to sit. We afraid that was not clear enough for our hostess, that you would like to have a table. So probably she decided to seat the next group that already had a reservation until you were made-up your mind. She intended to make you feel relaxed and not to acknowledge you. We are sorry if you found her choice inappropriate. Rest assured that we have already talked with our staff so to avoid anything similar in the coming future. We hope that you will give us a chance to offer you the hospitality we are famed for! Kind regards

Traditonal Taverna with local food only.Homemade cheese and homemade bread as well as meat from our farm...Enjoy the best view and wonderfull sunsets of the island...
We ate at Taverna Fantastiko last night. An apt name for this enchantingly remote taverna perched on an aerie way above Réthymno and its surrounding towns with a commanding view of the Sea of Crete. It was an exciting drive through the ancient villages surrounding the Taverna and then up, up and up again to the awe-inspiring location at the tippy top of an extremely tall hill or short mountain! The view had us mesmerized when we arrived and, fortunately, we had made a reservation, so we had a perfect two-top table at the wall overlooking all the magic and never-ending vistas which reached all the way to the Akrotyri Peninsula in Chania! The couple that rode on our rear bumper up most of the hill tried to race us inside on arrival for that choice table but was relegated another, less strategically located one because they had no reservation. They were quite disappointed to see the RESERVED sign on ours! The host was sweet and we reviewed the menu, ordered the house wine and our dinners: for apps the Chef's Cheese Plate (superb, Graviera, Xinomyzithra and a spicy cream cheese served on tomatoes and cucumbers); and the fried eggplants with luscious tomato sauce and grated cheese. For mains we ordered the Roast Lamb in its own juices and Spicy Pork. Each course was absolutely delicious, most especially the fried eggplant and sauce covered with grated Graviera. We loved the lamb and pork dishes, they were wonderfully prepared and digging among the succulent bones for the "sweet meat" was itself a rewarding and toothsome adventure. This dinner was truly a dining experience which, so far, has not been exceeded. The view, the food and hospitality were all in fine balance this evening. Everyone was snapping away to capture the last of the Cretan sun as it slipped below the clouds on the distant horizon. It is a trek up (and down) the hilltop where this taverna is located but well worth the journey. Take it easy going down the hill and through the tiny villages with their serpentine and narrow streets. Be especially careful if you have had a few carafes of the red house wine, those curves come faster and more furious when you imbibe before descending, careening through minuscule village byways and roads. It is an experience not soon forgotten, all of it! I highly recommend dining at this amazing taverna, it is an overall experience of location, hospitality, cuisine and many memories were made this night! Make a reservation for a great table!

A welcoming tavern where the homemade food will ravish your senses and the owner will guide through their specialties. Whatâs more, the prices are really attractive. We recommend.

Visited here for dinner. The restaurant is lovely with a slightly eccentric but very friendly owner who prepares the most amazing Cretan food. I ordered meatballs followed by mousaka and a complimentary chocolate and cream dessert with Raki. My wife chose aubergine pattyâs with stuffed pepper and tomato as main with the same dessert. We had half litre of rose and a large beer and bill came to â¬33 !!! The food and service were amazing and the place is a must visit if your staying anywhere near Plantains, Réthimnon.
