Kissamos (Greek: Κίσσαμος) is a town and municipality, multiple (former) bishopric and Latin titular see in the west of the island of Crete, Greece. It is part of the Chania regional unit and of the former Kissamos Province which covers the northwest corner of the island. The city of Kissamos is also known as Kastelli Kissamou and often known simply as Kastelli after the Venetian castle that was there. It is now a port and fishing harbour, with a regular ferry from the Peloponnese via Kythira. A town museum is located in the old Venetian governor's palace and there have been important archaeological finds in the town, including fine mosaics, dating from the Roman city of Kisamos (Κίσαμος, Latinized as Cisamus). The head town of the municipality (Δήμος Κισσάμου) is Kastelli-Kissamos itself.

I got a gyros pita to take away. Service was excellent and incredibly fast. I would have liked more salad and sauce inside, it was just meat and potato even though I asked for 'everything' As a result a bit dry. But excellent price and very convenient.
We visited for our evening meal as the reviews were great.First we didn't realise that there is no menu and our waitress didn't offer much in the way of information of what's available. So we ordered 2 beers, pork soulvaki and chicken soulvaki and a portion of tzatziki. We we served one soulvaki stick each on a plate. We were expecting more of a meal. The tzatziki was a generous portion but over garlicky for my taste.Maybe if we'd had a different waitress or gone on a different day we would have had a better experience. We wouldn't return.

Food was average at best, considerably worse than the other 4 restaurants we dined at on Maria Beach. Deducting another star because their space rents he jet skis which absolutely ruin the tranquility of the beach with their high decibel noise pollution. For that reason alone I don't think this place deserves support.

Went there and ate octapus. The portion was ok and very tasty. The fried aubergine was not nice. Just deepfried and not tasty, i guess i just expected the vegetables to be grilled. The location is delightful and the service was great. We even received cake and raki free of charge. The prices were good.

What a delight. Clear open views to the beachfront set in an unusual and interesting building! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal this evening (can recommend the mixed grill for two which will satisfy any appetite!) traditional Greek food aplenty with modest prices and lovely welcoming staff! If only we’d discovered this earlier! Thankyou Ippokampos Tavern Cafe!

Pita giros souvlaki
This is probably the cheapest proper restaurant in town, open all year round, with the ambiance of a takeaway – as you eat your meal, people are constantly coming into the rather bare space for yiros. The service was friendly, fine and relatively quick. The menu is quite long, but there aren’t a lot of Greek options on there. It’s a bit away from the centre and far from the seafront along the busy main road, but nowhere in Kastelli is too far.The food was disappointing. I ordered the mixed pork plate and it was huge at a very reasonable price. However, the ‘burger’ wasn’t a real meat pattie (not sure what but it wasn’t great) one of the sausages was a cheap frankfurter and the other one was OK. This dish mainly consists of a plate of chips (which were also OK) and a huge mound of yiros. This was generous but rather dry and far from the best in town. The house wine was a bit sour and the worst I had in Kastelli. The sign shows a chilli pepper but they seem to serve no spicy food.I can’t really recommend this place, but if you do go, I’d stick to the stuff on the spit – they usually have chickens and cuts of pork turning there.Hi Mark,Thank you for your review. I would like to start with the following, in case you wanted something more spicy you should have asked us to do so, the pepper on our logo is not supposed to be spicy here in Greece, it's actually sweet sometimes ;). The mixed pork plate that you ordered is a 50-50 pork and beef as stated on the menu. Also, in case you didn't like the wine we would have loved to serve you something different that would have pleased you.We are happy that you enjoyed the quantity and our price range, though!
