We stayed 3 weeks in Matala in August/September 2017 and tested most of the restaurants in Matala. But the taverna of Nikos is absolutely the best of all. We were five times at Nikos and it was always a pleasure and delicious. The people are very friendly, the food is always top quality, the price is very good and you get always a dessert or fruits and a small bottle of Raki. The desserts are selfmade and especially created. It was funny to discuss with Nikos what is inside the desserts. You can choose your fresh fish at the kitchen. The specials of the day are very very good. You can eat fish, lamb, meat etc always at itâs best.Well prepared and very delicious. This taverna is absolutely recommended if you wanna have very good food.Greetings to Nikos and the stuff

We were in Crete at a very windy time but mystically the wind dropped to nothing for one evening and that was on our special day (birthday and anniversary) meal at this restaurant. The view is stunning and the sunsets beautiful and the service very entertaining! We really enjoyed our evening.

Me and my friend visited Matala in October and we are looking for a traditional tavern to try original Greek food!In taverna Eleni we try foods and specialties that we had never eat before!! Like mussels in garlic with wine sauce and sepia with her ink and spinach(the plate on the photo)! Everything that we try was great! I totally recommend it!!

Lovely restaurant to sit at and enjoy the sunset over the bay in Matala. We found this restaurant had a nice variety of foods on the menu, with mostly just Cretan and Greek food being offered. We shared the double portion of fresh fish, which was succulent and rich in flavor - beautiful! Salads were equally large and tasty. We'll also remember the homemade pesto-olive oil mix served with the bread, which was very unique. Cocktails for 5 euros! The taverna offers seating on two different levels, so you shouldn't have trouble finding a table. The staff was also quite friendly with our little one, so good with kids too! Definitely a nice find!

This place is not really the top culinary experience but it has a great location a d lots of personality, so it is hard to blame them. I would recommend it for a easy lunch or a drink and it looks like they have some concerts going on in the main season, which has to be great.

Pros:Location, only for sunset.Cons:Service - after serving thr food nobody attended our table to ask if all is ok or something missing.Food - poor presention and plate setup. Main course comes with dry fried potato chip style. Small fried fish, super dry, not traditional to standard. All other food, chicken, meat balls, 3 out 10 rating at best!!!

A cozy restaurant where you may enjoy your meals, choosing from a variety of Greek and Mediterranean dishes, by the beach of Matala with the famous caves.
I cannot compare it with the offer of other Matala restaurants, but we were a little bit dissapointed. We were waiting to long to order, get meal and finally even payments took us too much time. Food? Again nothing special, it was too grilled and too dry (calamari), to much salt on potatos, risotto was to spicy, with so many different sea food types inside that it and up with weired taste. Less is sometimes more, with food it is not always - âput everything on the plate to be richâ a good combination. But I must say that tarama salade was really really good, this was the first time that we try it on Crete.Price was correct, but we did not get the invoice. We came to Greece with expectations that nobody will give us invoice and that nobody is paying taxes, but it was actually not the case and I must say I was positively suprised with that fact. Here we get only on a peace of paper what we ordered. Thanks to that kind of behaviour citizens of EU were solving Greek government budget issues few years agoo, that is why I hate this kind of behavior. And the waiter - I do not like when I ask waiter to recommend me or help me what to order and he say - depend on what you like/prefere. Of course it depends on that, but I cannot make a decision, that is why waiter could say something like: âthis we sell more offen, people are satisfied with this foodâ, âthis food has a really huge portionâ, âthis is less heavy for stomachâ etc... be creative, help customers...sell...you are not here just to take an order, you should me advisor in this story too.. othervise, I do not need a waiter, put tablets on every table and I will order food online...Plus it was windy all the time...

The place is always full and this is a signal of good food. We tried it twice and came true. The food is quite good and the prices are low. The stuff is polite and the service is rather fast despite that at dinner time is always full. Definatelly worths to eat here even the place does not have any special view as other restaurants nearby.

I found the food to be fresh and tasty and the wine good value. In a fishing village of sorts, the menu was mainly seafood but other dishes were available. The staff were very friendly and helpful in explaining the menu.My grilled squid was excellent.

Established in May 2017, the taverne George's yard is located in the house where Fisherman-George used to live. We, Manolis, Yvonne and our team, are looking forward to present you cretan dishes with finesse and a modern touch. Delicious fava with capers
We have been to Iraklion, Chania, Agios Nikolaos and many other places but this restaurant has by far the best cuisine. Great food. Wonderful taste and moderate priced. Stay this way.
