Visited here for dinner. The restaurant is lovely with a slightly eccentric but very friendly owner who prepares the most amazing Cretan food. I ordered meatballs followed by mousaka and a complimentary chocolate and cream dessert with Raki. My wife chose aubergine pattyâs with stuffed pepper and tomato as main with the same dessert. We had half litre of rose and a large beer and bill came to â¬33 !!! The food and service were amazing and the place is a must visit if your staying anywhere near Plantains, Réthimnon.

Stunning vistas, delicious home cooked and healthy food, friendly faces to welcome and serve - this place is magical! Violetta welcomed us for lunch and cut fresh greens from her garden so we could eat exactly what we were craving. The vistas are beautiful and the food is nourishing in every way. Thavma is a picturesque family taverna on the top of maroulas village. The food is delicious, you Have To taste, beef with vegetables, sausage, eggplants, salads, everything is delicious. Once again lovely food in a lovely setting and a great host. My previous reviews of Giannikos have already summed up the best of this place and dont need to be repeated again. Needless to say we keep coming back because we love the place. See you in June next year at your birthday bash.

Difficult to add to what other reviewers have said - this taverna truly deserves its 5* rating. Food, innovative using top quality local produce and welcome, great. We've been coming here several times each September when we're in Crete and can honestly say that it's one of our 2 top rated restaurants in all Greece. We've been coming to Greece every year for 25 years now.One thing I'll add. Kostas, chef & front of house, is very happy to share his culinary secrets with you. It's when he talks about his food that you realise how clever and complex it is. I've been making Greek deserts for some time and wanted to know why his grape spoon sweet is better than mine. I would never have thought of putting the leaves of scented pelagoniums into ( but only on the second cooking, mind) but he does. Many other tips he's given us over the years.For such a talented and passionate chef to share his experience is a rare thing. We're grateful for it, just a shame we've got to wait another year to come back!

Estonian family in Crete.We have had a dinner twice in this place and it has been an amazing experience. Workers here are very helpful and handsome. Theyâre always trying to make the best food possible. It has great prices for foods and portions are big. Highly recommend!

Yanna & Matthew the extremely friendly owners welcomed my large family of 8 & 15 month old baby with open arms! We had a wonderful experience and their âno stressâ policy was bang on! The food was wonderful and full of flavour. When we visited for a quick cocktail to make the booking for a later date (fully booked ahead!) we even got to taste the special Thai green curry we ordered on the night of the booking! They just went the extra mile with many things to give you a great experience so thanks to Yanna and Matthew for this! Highly recommendable to anyone visiting the area!

We came last year and found this outstanding restaurant. We returned tonight for a special birthday meal and didnât think last yearâs visit could be topped but how wrong we were. The food was beyond incredible, the staff and service so attentive, passionate and knowledgeable and simply couldnât be more willing to please. Literally the very best meal I have ever eaten. Will definitely be returning for sure!

Wow! From the warm welcome when we arrived to the attentive service by both owner and staff, we knew this place was something special. The location is fabulous, overlooking the ocean along Rethymnonâs coast road, and just a few metres from where we were staying. The eating area extends out above the sea where, at night, the glass viewing balcony allows you not only to gaze out to sea but also to watch the fish swim and jump in the blue-green water among the waves. This is a specialist fish restaurant where both owner and chef clearly know their stuff. Nibbles of bread with local baby olives and a pot of tzatziki to dip it in was gorgeous but the Saganaki Monkfish to start was an absolute triumph - tender chunks of monkfish in a cream, tomato and brandy (?) sauce with a hint of chilli. Lobster Linguine served at the table is an expensive choice at â¬42 for two, but absolutely worth it....morsels and mouthfuls of creamy lobster in a delicate tomato sauce with a rustic linguine thatâs both filling and delicious. The wine list is extensive - the house red was warm and moreish - and a small ice cold bottle of Mastiha (the famous pine resin-flavoured greek liqueur) to follow a delicious pudding of cream cheese pie with honey was absolute perfection.The waiting staff are all friendly, warm and multi-lingual, keen to help and to make sure you have everything you need right when you need it. The owner is rightly proud of his business and heâll happily tell you the history of the building and how he came to find himself here....he clearly loves not only this island and Greek culture but wants his customers to love it too and his eagerness to make sure youâre happy is so lovely! If youâre visiting Rethymnon, 7 Thalasses is definitely worth a visit. Itâs out on the coast road, about 10 minutes by taxi from the harbour, or a 25 minute walk if youâre that way inclined. We loved it and have plenty of time left on our holiday yet to go back for more!
