I have been to the Pioneer House a few times recently, as I have just moved to the area and it came recommened, and it is never great. First time I ordered the crab cake eggs benedict and the crab cakes only tasted of onion. Actually the onion taste overwhelmed the entire dish. Next time it was for the prime rib that came with a tough Yorkshire pudding and gravy that looked like thick brown sludge. Last time was for lunch where the server suggested the tortilla soup with a side of rice to bulk it out to what was to be a spicy & flavourful dish. Nope, bland. Service was average unless you were a regular then the staff went out of their way.

We had the price fixe, which is rare for us. And we were glad we did. The choices were all interesting and each dish was a happy event. We will return regularly. Decent wine list, some excellent selections and reasonably priced. Service also good. We will return.

Family-friendly seafood restaurant in an eclectic seaside village. Ocean Wise (Vancouver Aquarium recommended) & Marine Stewardship Council sustainable fisheries seafood. Local produce & bakery products. Celiac menu. Friendly, down-to-earth service. Great food!

Their clubhouse is amazing, fries are really good!!
Considering how busy it was, we were acknowledged as soon as we walked in the door. We appreciated every aspect of their service!! Sure made us feel welcomed!!
*Seating is amazing too, lots of privacy in a majority of the restaurant.

Family owned and operated local hotspot for craft beer, local wine, fresh food and house-made desserts!
Just Jake's reminds me of those chain restaurants like Montana's or Kelseys where the menu is wide and varied with comfort foods like burgers, steaks, soups, salads and other trendy choices. But I like it better here because everything tastes fresh and home-made. The atmosphere is casual and family-friendly and the prices are very reasonable. Friendly service. RECOMMEND.

Nestled in the tranquility of picturesque Genoa Bay on Vancouver Island, about 1 hour north of Victoria and only 20 minutes from Duncan, the Genoa Bay Café has rewarded guests with one of the most delightful dining experiences in the Cowichan Valley.
Came here for our second anniversary dinner. We come every year and also on special occasions. The food is always amazing and fresh. The staff are professional and relaxed, making you feel very comfortable. Make a reservation when you go, especially in the summer months. Definitely recommend this to everyone!

Called here for a lunch one day and was pleasantly surprised by the Shipyard, it was my bias that I was not expecting much however the food was great. Staff very friendly and attentive and a pleasant location overlooking a busy little marina.

This was my third visit and as before, everything was just excellent. The food, the aroma, the ambience, the service.... Just 5 Star all around. 5 levels of spicy-ness.... Mild, Medium, Hot, Indian Hot and XXX Hot.... I've always had the 'Hot' level which is pretty spicy so the other higher levels could be 'Phew'! ---- Be sure to make a reservation or you may not be able to get in on certain nights

we stopped in here while trying different vineyards in the area, a very nice bistro area that had a large lunch menu, not your regular burgers and sandwiches, so maybe not the best bet for the kids but for a couple or for friends this would be ideal. We did not take advantage of the tasting but did enjoy the sangria at the bistro

First of all the renos people talk about are mostly invisible, not much to report there. Don't forget to use the under the restaurant parking if there is little on the street. Handy little tip on a busy weekend where people are hunting for half decent parking on the one road by the bay.
The seats on the outdoor patio are wonderful to enjoy your meal. Blankets available if it's a little chilly. My wife used one and was toasty warm and happy.
We had a chicken and brie Sandwich and 2 piece halibut and chips. They were both filling and super tasty. Service was friendly and prompt. All in all a wonderful meal, decent price, great views, and extremely satisfied. Would go again in a heartbeat.
