In the quaint town of Covington, located just across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans, the Southern Hotel's vaunted history of hospitality began in 1907. Established as a physical and spiritual retreat where visitors would re-energize amidst the area's cool breezes, piney woods, and mineral springs, the hotel hosted guests for more than 50 years. Full-scale restoration of the 40+ room boutique hotel has been completed!
Not your standard mass-produced hotel. Built in the 1920s and rehabbed in such a way as to retain the charm and has all the up to date conveniences. The bathroom was especially appealing with a retro sink. Fast, courteous service. My only quibble is that I had to go to the lobby for morning coffee. If there was a little coffee maker in the room, I could not find it.

I have had to recognize that business are truly operating in the best way possible with fewer employees. With that perspective, the hotel offered excellent service and accommodations. The employees clearly by multitasking pulled together each day and get the job done! People we must recognize that most if not all businesses are operating with a skeleton crew. Try to keep that in mind before you chose to express dissatisfaction that these employees are working real hard to keep things a float.

Our entire travel baseball organization stayed at this hotel. The room was clean and staff was friendly. The area is safe. However, …..the air conditioners are clearly set up to shut off before reaching the programmed temperature . Although the AC read 69 the room temp was defiantly in the mid to high 70s. We stayed two nights in two different rooms on different ends of the hotel on different floors same situation. A complaint was made after the first night and we were told, “well I hope you don’t get that room again”. If you prefer to sleep in a cool room this is not the place to stay.

This is a disappointing place in a nice part of Louisiana. It's no better than the chain's properties in the state's small towns. It's big and clean, and the front desk clerk is chipper and helpful. The bed was hard enough but cozy. Those are the attributes. Negatives: — just two carts with insufficiently inflated tires for a very large hotel — ice on floors 1 and 3 only (the one on 3 out of order) — no hand lotion (It's on back order. Right.) — tv in the dining area locked into one of the extremist cable stations (I'll let you guess which one), rather than the helpful Weather Channel or a reliable network channel — breakfast that's below even this chain's just-ok standards: NO fresh fruit, not even gnarly apples! ("We ran out." Not true; there was none yesterday, either._No half-and-half — just the chemical stuff; good biscuits and the usual out-of-a-giant-can sausage gravy. Dry egg "flips" with processed cheese. Processed ham slices that are really sliced lunch meet. — a large, nasty sign on the kitchen attendants' door, saying KEEP OUT in no uncertain terms, as if guests are sneaking in to get more gravy. Instead of the cheerful kitchen attendant who's present with guests much of the time, this one (or however many there are) is gone or hiding out in the fortress. — a single elevator, which, while speedy when running, is the same one used by housekeepers mid-morning. — not only aren't there USA Today papers available; there's not even the local rag You can (hopefully) do better in a town that is basically all malls, gas stations, and hotels. p.s. to IHG execs reading this. Don't bother with the questions below about COVID precautions. Like all the IHG properties in which we've stayed on our trip through Louisiana, the COVID pandemic is considered old news; there are still scattered hand-sanitizing stations, and that's it.

excellent property; very clean, well stocked with toiletries and even some tiny packets of antibac in a welcome bag. Outside is well kept and has plenty of parking. All staff were friendly and polite. Some other adult guests were talking loudly in the hallway, but that wasn't the fault of the hotel. Thankfully it didn't last too long. Restaurant is available but I didn't eat there.

For $190 a night - there were two cock roaches in the room - Pillows were stained - Room smells like mildew - Comforter was ripped - Shower curtain was stained - Phone was disconnected - I guess based on above it is ok that there were rust in the bathroom, sink was cracked and there were nails and the picture was missing Cannot believe it carries Hampton Inn and Hilton names.

Newly Renovated Property.
Stayed for 3 nights in April 2022 for work reasons. This is a good place to stay for budget travel. The place is looking a little worn in places (carpet and elevator), but it's obvious that they clean and maintain it well. What really set it apart was the friendliness of the staff. The people at the front desk and the morning breakfast were very nice and helpful. Hey it's a 2-star property, not a resort, but it's great for work or for a night on the road.
